book sluts ‘r’ us media statement

It’s on again, virtual folks!

The ground breaking… the awesome… the whenever-we’re-in-the-mood-to-give-it-to-someone-nual…

BOOK SLUTS ‘R’ US BLOGGER AWARD!

This time we’re challenging you to tell us how much of a Book Slut you really are.

That’s right. We dare you to admit how many books you bought last month, whether it be an ebook, new-in-print or secondhand/used. Pressies, books for reviews or ARCs don’t count so don’t even try it.

The person judged to be the most unrepentant Book Slut will not only receive the Book Sluts ‘r’ Us Blogger Award, but an ebook of their choice up to $8. (What can we say. We are enablers.)

This time we’re only accepting nominations if you have the cojones to comment directly on this post because anyone not proud of their sluttery is unworthy of the Book Slut award. Amen.

‘Fess up by Sunday 3.59 PM (Perth, West Oz time).

C’mon. We’ll show you ours, if you show us yours. 😉

    What can I say….. I'm a slow reader 🙂
    tish

  2. Natasha says:

Oh did they have to be m/m books or any books?
    tish

  3. Kris says:

Ah, you're a woman after my own heart, Tish. 🙂

It's any book, whatever the genre, that you bought in the month of October.

  4. Jenre says:

Bugger. You've disqualified me from this cos most of the books I read are arcs or passed onto me by friends. I don't get time to read anything I've actually bought so I've almost stopped buying books now.

Last month I bought 5 books but I read an awful lot more than that.

Perhaps I should get a special award for being a book slut encourager. I read the arcs, put out a review and the book sluts buy the books.

  5. awwww….90% of the books I read are for review and not bought 😦

    WHY YOU GOTTA DISCRIMINATE??!

*pouts, mutters, wanders off to talk more authors into making me fruity bat pr0n*

  6. The slut was beaten out of me last month…I was a book prude *shiver*. My inner book slut really shines in the winter, when I am snow bound and have an excuse people will accept as to why I can't go here or there with them. I am hoping for record breaking snow this year. *grin*

    :o)

    MsM

  7. Kris says:

Jen: The Book Sluts judges will take your suggestion of 'greatest pimp' award under advisement. *Actually we already had that one planned. LOL. Great minds. ;)*

    Emmy: “WHY YOU GOTTA DISCRIMINATE??!”

Cos it's our award AND WE ARE THE BOSSES!!

*no to fruity bat pr0n. yes to bat queen of fruits pr0n.*

    MsM: Book prudery?? *gasp* Blasphemer!

Don't be disappointing me over winter, MsM, or we shall be having words.

  8. Natasha says:

I love November… all my chrissy pressies turn up…. but I'm not allowed to play with them until the day!!!!! 😦
Did I have to list them… the books not my pressies?
    tish

  9. Kris says:

Tish, I honestly didn't believe that there was someone out there in the world who was more impatient when it came to pressies than I was. It's truly an honour to meet you.

As long as you pinky swear and 'cross your heart and hope to die and stick a needle in your eye' we'll let you get away with not listing the books. 🙂

  10. I vow to be the best book slut I can be this winter!

    :o)

    MsM

  11. Natasha says:

Yup… cross my heart swear to die stick a needle in my eye 🙂 Wait does it count if I already have the ebook and buy the print copy?
    tish
PS what did you ask Santa for for chrissie?

  12. Kris says:

MsM: *shaking finger* You'd better, young lady. Or else!

    Tish: Yup, it counts.

I'm carefully building my list for Santa. I have to get it just right in order for it to have the most impact so it's under wraps for the moment. 😉

  13. Natasha says:

Phew! It means that my 3rd copy of T&D counts aswell yee haa! (2 print nd 1 ebook…. anyone says mad crushing on Simon dies a slow and painful death)
    tish

  14. I bought about 58, course um, 4 of those are preorders so I have yet to get them 🙂 (several I have yet toget since they are from Amazon and they ship SLOWLY!)

  15. It seems I kept my book legs closed. I have to say that I haven't been a big books slut as I should have.
    *sad*

  16. Tam says:

Well shit. You're going to make me count? I don't think I can top Natasha though. I was pretty restrained last month. Sigh. My TBR file is getting dangerously low. I think I must be down to a dozen by now. Time to start a spree. Mind you, with my Mom coming to visit little will get read (must tackle that yaoi) so this month might me a write-off as well. Sigh. My life is hard.

  17. I bought 13 books for October, 3 of which were Hardbacks! Do I get extra slut points for HBs (you can't see it but I'm giving you the puppy dog eyes)? I think November will be an extra slutty month for me as I've already bought 4.

  18. Ingrid says:

    24. 8 paper ones and 16 e-books.
Seeing the other results I feel like a good girl 🙂

  19. Kris says:

Tish: O_O Of course we won't. *We wouldn't dare.*

Book Crazy Jenn: *hand on shoulder* Well done, grasshopper Well done.

Preorders definitely count. 🙂 As to Amazon… don't even get me started about their delivery time! That and their shipping costs to Oz are the main reasons I converted to the gloriousness that is The Book Depository.

Katiebabs chook: And you have the nerve to call yourself a Book Slut! For shame!

  20. Kris says:

Tam: Yes, you need to count.

Also, how many times do I have to tell you it doesn't matter if you have time to actually read. What matters is that you continue to buy as many books as you like so that the size of your tbr can rival… say, piles of laundry. 😉

Smokinhotbooks: Hmmm, I will need to confer with my fellow judge on the issue of extra slut points for HBs given that only the truly skanky go down the path of the HB. *damned puppy dog eyes*

Ingrid: A good girl who likes to flirt… a lot. LOL.

  21. Natasha says:

Housework? Whats that… geez thats why I had kids. Housework takes away from
    A: shopping
    B: reading
    C: reading whilst shopping 🙂

  22. Ingrid says:

    Flirting?!? Me?? No way

  23. Kris says:

Tish: Indeed. Hence the piles of laundry.

Ingrid: So you're not a book flirt then? *suspicious* Exactly how far have you gone? Are you really a Book Slut and *gasp* hiding it from us?!

  24. Ingrid says:

Nooo, honestly. That are the number of books I bought. I am not saying anything about the yaoi that I read online. Or the ones that arrived in the mail. Or the anime I watched, but those are not books right?

  25. Kris says:

    So you're just a perve, Ingrid?? 😉

Me, I would count the yaoi books that you've actually purchased.

  26. Ingrid says:

*pout* I did, told you I bought 8 paper books? That's 6 yaoi, Lover Mine and one Mary Balogh

  27. Kris says:

Oh. That's all your books, Ingrid? Are you sick??

  28. Ingrid says:

    and 16 e-books. I told you earlier

  29. Melissa says:

Hi! I'm one of your lurkers…but I'm a very proud book slut (especially when my husband doesn't know just how much I spend on books now…God I love e-books)
From Fictionwise, LooseID, and All Romance I bought a total of 57 ebooks.
From Amazon I bought and received exactly 6 books and preordered 1.
From my daughters book fair (just the books for me not her even though I read hers as well;) I bought 2. So that makes my bought specifically for me a total of 66 books for the month of October. Ok! going back to lurking again…

  30. Kris says:

Ingrid: That's what I mean. That's only 24. I seriously think you are sick.

Melissa, hey there. 🙂 Not only a Book Slut, but a Book Smuggler. Welcome, dear heart, welcome!

I'm particularly loving how so many of you have bought more books than days in the month.

Being able to say that you indulged an average of 1.84 times a day last month just has a certain ring to it, don't you think. 😉

  31. Tam says:

No damn way I can beat Melissa so I'm not even gonna try.

Why the hell are you always up so early? You make me tired. Of course that could be because it's almost bed time. Well, not really if I'm going to have done what I need to before the mother arrives tomorrow. Ack!!!! (Here I sit surfing. Sigh)

  32. Kris says:

Tam, you think I wanna be up this early?? Stupid insomnia. 😦

Have you at least bought food so you can feed your Mum??

  33. Tam says:

No, no food yet. LOL But I did clean my bathroom and vacuum my bedroom and I only have two loads of laundry left to do. It's only 6:30, I have LOTS of time to buy food, and clean up the kitchen. Otherwise I think I'm ready. Sort of.

  34. Kris says:

*rolls eyes* Sure. Keep telling yourself that, mate.

  35. nichem says:

Wow, I thought I bought a lot of books, but y'all have me beat by a lot! I don't feel so guilty for buying 20 books last month now.

  36. Kris says:

Richelle: Feel free to now sleep the good sleep of the guiltless conscience. Others will take up the slack for you. LOL.

  37. Tracy says:

Wow between your blog count and my blog count I think our virtual friends are keeping the reading industry in some serious coin.

Keep up the good work ladies!

  38. Kris says:

I know. It's such a proud moment for the both of us, isn't it, Tracy. I keep on getting the 'I'm so proud' sniffles.

  39. I am back in slut mode!! My legs were wide open as I went to a used book sale today and bought 20 books!!

Takes that fake book sluts! HA.

  40. Kris says:

    *rolls eyes* Yeah, yeah.

I got about 10 ebooks myself yesterday. The thing is you need to make sure you keep up the momentum for the entire month. If not… pfft.

  41. orannia says:

Ahhh, 1…I bought Blaze of Memory (Nalini Singh) this morning…

    *hangs head in shame*

  42. Kris says:

You will learn, grasshopper. Have patience. You will learn.

  43. Tracy says:

KB – I knew you had it in you honey – keep up the good work.

Orannia – it's a start! Don't be ashamed. Blaze of Memory is a great place to start!

  44. jessewave says:

I bought 19 books in October but they were all expensive print books. Does that count? The Book Depository now has my credit card for safekeeping since I can't afford anything else.:)

Guess even Ingrid has me beat.

  45. Kris says:

    Wave, nice try, but.. no.

The Book Depository and I are in love. I love it and it loves my money. 🙂

  46. over 40 M/M books every month (yes, i'm insane! but i do get a free book after every 10!) i must cut back tho! i think i'll just read blogs from now own!!

    salina

  47. Kris says:

Salina, embrace your book sluttery. You are among friends here. 🙂

Also, and let's make it real here, to get a free book for every 10 books you're practically obliged to go big on your book buying.

At least, that's what I tell myself every time I go shopping at ARe. Hey, whatever works, right. *hehehe*

  48. Kris has just informed me about BARF. I think we need an explanation to this new shady rule Kris has created.

  49. Kris says:

It's not shady!! It was in the friggin' fine print and included therein for obvious bloody reasons!

    Here it is:

Book Sluts 'R' Us Blogger Award – The Rule to End All Rules

In the event an Official Book Slut falls from his/her pedestal of awesomeness for reasons such as becoming a Born Again Reading Virgin (otherwise known as BARV [pronounced 'barf']) and/or entering into a Book Slut rehabilitation or other intervention/deprogramming programs, his/her Award will be stripped from him/her, s/he will be blocked thereafter from all reading blogs and s/he will be blacklisted by all Publishing houses and bookstores everywhere (which will seriously suck when s/he falls of the wagon as s/he inevitably will). In other words, it will be majorly bad to be her/him should s/he choose that misbegotten path.
