Not only is she a fellow antipodean; coming from the land of sheeps and hobbitses, but it was she who started the domino affect that was the Black Wade phenomenon.
*moment of silent drooling awe*
Please welcome, Sarah!

Kris, forewarned, is forearmed. Lets just assume none of the following links are safe for work. Although, why in gods name one would surf at work is beyond me. They’re supposed to be working!! Kris: So there, you slackers! ๐
When I was younger we had a few old penthouses floating about the house that I used to sneak out to have a nosey at. This was my formal introduction to boobs, the occasional cock and beautifully illustrated erotic comics in the form of Oh, Wicked Wanda, written by Frederic Mullally and illustrated by Ron Embleton. She was Penthouse’s answer to Playboy’s Little Annie Fanny, except she was always far cooler and most definitely more sexy.

Of course a lot of the political satire inherent within the stories went miles over my wee head, but I enjoyed them anyway. Wanda was such a fantastic character with very few redeeming features. In the 80’s when my female role models came in the form of Wonder Woman, Thelma and the truly outrageous Jem – Wanda ruled them all. AND I ALWAYS wanted a sidekick/lover like Candyfloss. Puss cake.
I do really enjoy reading erotic comics. I like owning and having them on my shelf even more. I have coveting issues. I like comics that are frank and explicit in the nature of the sex they portray, but I also like a little bit of feeling too. It’s a little like my feelings about porn and why I like the idea of what Travis Mathews is doing with his new film. I digress…
I’m not really sure how I got into reading gay erotic comics, I just did. The internet has a huge part to play in this. It opens so many opportunities for reading stuff that appeals, but I would not get exposure to in traditional stores. I’m not sure what it is about erotic gay comics that does appeal to me; I mean, I like guys and guys bodies and yeah, I like sex too, but guys having sex together is beautiful and I do find it more appealing than het erotic comics. I don’t tend to navel gaze too much about this though, I just like it. I like spanish canned peaches from the local deli too.
Stylistically, there are a few artists that really float my boat and while I like some yaoi artists, I don’t always find it as appealing as say bara manga and more muscular, explicit comics. Some artists just do pictures and some write whole books. Below is some of the stuff that I really like and think is worth having a nosey at. Oh, and by no means am I am expert. I just know what I like. There are several articles written here by Tina Anderson, that are absolutely worth reading about art and stuff and I think she’s a bit of a smarty. Patrick Fillion also has his Boytoons Mag which not only showcases his own work, but loads of others too.
These are a few artists that I really enjoy. Just a few, because the list is rather long!!
Patrick Fillion – gorgeously heouge man bits, beautiful color and heโs not only a smarty but a super nice guy.
Franze and Andรคrle – beautiful Pirate Black Wade. I hope they write more!
Silencio – just beautiful, masculine and gorgeous.
Jacopo Camagni – I have a crush on his work and his beard.
The last one Iโm pretty into a the moment is J Bone. Super funky art.
There are loads more artists and writers I admire and enjoy. There are links on my blog and I occasionally twitter about stuff too. If youโve any to share, please do!
oh my oh my all these cartoon cookies oh my.
I so want a Black Wade sequel. Stat.

And I thought my wtf vagina post would raise eyebrows! Silly, silly me!
I like “graphic novel appreciation” posts.
:o)

I'm not really a fan of the muscular comic books types, although some artwork I've seen is very beautiful. I prefer the skinny yaoi boys. LOL I will have to look at the links at home because I'm working now. Working hard. Get off my case. ๐
Great post! I love the muscular types and Tam's skinny boys. ๐ I'm an equal opportunity perv.
LOL Eyre! Me too! It's all good I say!
:o)

I must take the cute butt salior guy home with me'!! Black wade is gorgeous so worth the dinero.
I'm taking Black Wade on vacation with me because I'm going to let a couple of people read it when we meet up. It won't take them long and they have to give him back unmolested. LOL
Great post Sarah. I can't say I like the huge cock comics as much as you do, but I can appreciate the art and the colour.
LOL – what Jen said. ๐
You all too busy looking at the cookies to read the text?? Why am I not surprised. LOL.
You should have no probs reading the text now so why don't you edjumactate yourselves. ๐
Sarah, thanks so much again for doing this post.
I need to get my hands on Angelface. That 1920s-style of artwork really appeals to me… and the butt ain't bad either. ๐
Thanks heaps too for the bara link. I've been wanting to try that for a while now because I do so love the pieces that appear at tumblr for time to time. This gives me a terrific excuse.
Big smooches to you again for this, Sarah!
Okay, now that I'm home I got to look at the links. I'm more of a PL Nunn type girl. Very beautiful.
What a great post! I don't know anything about erotic comicbook art (I think Black Wade and Crimson Spell part 1 are the only graphic novels like this I've read) so this is a great reference! Thanks again, Sarah and Kris. ๐
Oooh I always love Sarah's links. ๐
I had no idea you were such a naughty girl–and at such a young age too!
I *really* need to break down and buy Black Wade. And maybe an unbreakable safe to keep it in in case I die and my family raids my bookshelves. O_O
*blinks* WOW! This is a whole new area I have to explore. Thank you Sarah!
The details in those pictures…
Hey Sarah
Thanks for a few more names to add to my list…
I am into Tom Of Findland stuff at the moment – but I do love a decent artist, they make or break a GN for me…
Black Wade…….Droooooollllllll
E.H>
Hi KB, I love Black Wade. I sincerely hope they do another book. Even if it's not a historical piece, maybe even a contemporary comic would be super cool.
Hey Tam, I think often Yaoi is more romantic and there is a certain ambiguity in the characters sexuality. Some of the bara stuff has a more romantic feel and is well worth having a nosey at.
Eyre, I am too!! I love Crimson Spell and I looooooved the Finder series. WHICH seems like it might be available in a few months. Reprinted. Omnomnom!!
K.C – I think all Bruno Gmรผnder stuff is worth a look. Their books are stunning. I have a couple! Dale Lazarov's titles being one of my other favorites.
Thanks Jenre, hope it was interesting. ๐ I've been re reading this
Kris, it was my pleasure and thanks for asking! Although, I was not sure what sort of reaction Wanda and all her lack of PC boobiness would elicit. LOL. Check out the Class Comics site as there are a few pages up of Angel Face at the moment. Gooooorgeous. Been re reading this gem too http://yfrog.com/n27irj
I love PL Nunns stuff, although sometimes I think they need soup and some pies. Meat on bones!!!
Cheers Val. Hope it was interesting!!
Jen, precocious much??? O-o I was such a dream of a kid. Not. Erk. I'm quite sure I would have had a boot in the ass if they'd suspected.
Thanks Orannia!!! ๐
Hi EH, I like ToF too. His comics are cool. I love his roundy bums. They're so cute!
Oh me likey! Great post Sarah! *off to look at muscular and hot men*
