maybe it’s me, but…

Is everyone completely obsessed with that Ghost Hunters TV program or what?

I don’t know about you, but there seems to be a lot of ghost stories, especially those featuring dead lovers, in m/m romance at the moment.

Me? I’m not a fan of the idea of ectoplasmic cum.

Makes me think of Slimer.

*visual*

Ick.

  1. Chris says:

Other than Life, Over Easy, I think I must be managing to avoid most of those!

  2. Tam says:

Most of the ghosts I've encountered lately in m/m have been NOT the love interest. They've usually just been hanging around for some reason, then they go off into the light once their man hooks up with a new guy.

I'm not a believer in ghosts so all those shows I find rather ridiculous. I've never seen it but the few times I've caught pieces even the kidlet was able to come up with plausible scientific explanations for the “breeze” they encountered. It's called wind people. LOL

Word veri: omossess – not sure but it sounds like something a ghost would be involved in.

  3. Matthew says:

Thank you for the Slimer visual. Thank you *very much*.

  4. nichem says:

Life, Over Easy is the only one I've read recently too. Like Chris, I think I'm managing to avoid them.

I don't really believe in ghosts, but those ghost tv shows freak me out– can't watch them.

  5. I can't watch Ghost Hunters anymore. Gives me the willies.

Great idea for a hot story though.

  6. Jenre says:

Not me! Apart from Dr Who and the occasional episode of QI, I don't watch TV. Ghost Hunters sounds like the sort of sensationalist crap I avoid like the plague.

I've read 2 books recently with ghosts in them, although only one of those was a dead ex-lover. I'm not too keen on the ghostly ex-lover plot either, or the use of ghosts in my romance books. Not sure why, but I just don't enjoy those types of stories.

  7. Ingrid says:

Can't say that I have seen it and I avoid all ghost m/m stories.

Jen, there are some great shows on the BBC! Did you see Sherlock Holmes? That Sherlock is too cute! (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00t4pgh)
The programs they did on camping? The home video's? The Norman series? Digging for Britain?
Maybe I have too much time on my hand but I would swap the BBC for dutch tv any time

very: dilus, mmm maybe something diluting in my brain??

  8. Tracy says:

Don't watch tv but I'm certainly not a huge fan of ghosts in books as love interests. One every once in a while but…

  9. Kris says:

Chris: I've been drooling over the new releases at ARe and, yes, I may be exaggerating, that every other book had a ghost in it. It was really odd. I was starting to think it was a sign.

Tam: “They've usually just been hanging around for some reason, then they go off into the light once their man hooks up with a new guy.”

I get that, but don't you think it's kinda weird; ie, twu wuv means that if i die 1st i will haunt you until you find a new love, but i promise you i won't do the jealous Caspar thing, just happy for you. O_o

    Matthew: Welcome! *beams*

  10. Kris says:

Richelle: How come you two can avoid them and I can't??

    O_O

    THEY'RE HAUNTING ME!

    Miranda: What?? *bats eyelashes innocently*

Katiebabs chook: “Great idea for a hot story though.”

    NO!

  11. Kris says:

Jen: ” I'm not too keen on the ghostly ex-lover plot either, or the use of ghosts in my romance books. Not sure why, but I just don't enjoy those types of stories.”

Me either. Check out my comment to Tam about twu wuv. You think that might be why we find it unappealling?

Ingrid: “Can't say that I have seen it and I avoid all ghost m/m stories.”

I'm curious: is there a particular reason why you don't like them, Ingrid?

Tracy: So you're not a fan either? Too unconvincing or is it the thought of ectoplasmic cum? 😉

  12. Tracy says:

lolol omg I've never thought of ectoplasmic cum before and….never want to again, thank you very much!
I'm not sure what the hang up is…believability? I read a short once that I liked – I guess I can take one every blue moon but not more often.

  13. Kris says:

    Tracy: You're very welcome. 😉

It's really rare for me to like this type of story line. Probably the best I've read most recently was M Jules Adein's Windows In Time.

  14. Eyre says:

Eww, glowing green cum. Thanks for that visual. That reminds me of LKH describing vampire cum as cold. Yeah, I didn't need that.

I don't generally care for romances where one of the love interests is a ghosts. It's hard to get the HEA if your sweetie is taking a dirt nap.

I have to admit to enjoying those haunted destination shows on the Travel Channel. The Ghost Hunters type shows tend to aggravate me, though.

  15. nichem says:

Well, I see them there– I just don't buy them and read them. 😛

  16. Sean Kennedy says:

I love ghosts and ghost stories. What can I say, my family is Irish and it's in our blood. The favourite thing to do when we all get together is tell ghost stories, especially real life ones.

However, I am torn between being a Mulder and a Scully, and my skeptical side is often exercised (exorcised, hee!). I do watch Ghost Hunters – more for entertainment and to hear ghost stories rather than believability.

That being said, I have remnants of a ghost story, but the characters and romantic interests are ghost hunters rather than actual ghosts.

  17. K. Z. Snow says:

I love ghost stories, too. Can't you ever provide us with titles, for crap's sake? (Or anything's sake — furballs, charm bracelets, snorkels. I don't care; take your pick.)

I wrote one ghost story, but damned if I can remember if/how/what the hero ejaculated. Now I'll have to go look it up.

Great. Another time-waster thanks to Kris.

  18. Kris says:

Eyre: “Eww, glowing green cum. Thanks for that visual. That reminds me of LKH describing vampire cum as cold. Yeah, I didn't need that.”

    Welcome, but cold cum? Yuckeh!

“It's hard to get the HEA if your sweetie is taking a dirt nap.”

LOL! Yep. Too much like the zombie thing. Blech.

    Richelle: Smart arse.

  19. Kris says:

    Sean: “exorcised, hee!”

    Oh, dear god. *sigh*

“That being said, I have remnants of a ghost story, but the characters and romantic interests are ghost hunters rather than actual ghosts.”

zOMG! You wrote a Wincest story!

KZ: “I wrote one ghost story, but damned if I can remember if/how/what the hero ejaculated. Now I'll have to go look it up.

Great. Another time-waster thanks to Kris.”

Ha! Ha! Made you look. And, no, I can't ever provide titles. I can't be arsed the being hounded thing for taking the piss. Been there. Done that.

  20. orannia says:

I'm not a fan of the idea of ectoplasmic cum.

    *chokes*

    Love the LOL cat photo!

  21. ElaineG says:

    What Matthew said….uh, twice 🙂

  22. Kris says:

Orannia: Are you choking on that cum?? 😛

    Elaine: It's a pleasure. *beams*

  23. Sean Kennedy says:

    Kris, I'll 'wincest' you.

  24. Kris says:

Sean: *bats eyelashes* You say the sweetest things.

  25. orannia says:

Orannia: Are you choking on that cum?? 😛

    *jaw drops*

    *speechless*

  26. Kris says:

    Orannia: What? *bats eyelashes innocently*

  27. JenB says:

    I love Ghost Hunters.

And ghost romance. SO THERE. *flounces off*

  28. Kris says:

JenB: Always such a drama queen. *sigh*

  29. MM romance with Slimer anyone?

  30. JenB says:

If you don't think you like ghost stories, you should try the Eye Spy books by Drew Zachary. They're sooooooo good and so cute. Short too, so you don't have to commit to 200 pages of ghostiness.

  31. Kris says:

    KBC: No. Just no.

    JenB: Maybe…
