things that make you go O.o

Yeah, I know I was going to do a follow-up post (or three) about ratings, but I was cruising the review sites and got sidetracked because… well…

Have you ever noticed that there seems to be a lot of leather and/or denim-clad, weapon-toting chicks on UF and PNR book covers who are looking straight at you?

How do they know we’re there?

Do you think it’s got something to do with the powers-they-inherited-from-the-family-member-they-never-knew-they-had-who-dies-in-a-suspicious-accident-leaving-them-a-mysterious-object-which-when-they-touch-it-awakes-the-potential-within-them-and-results-in-a-magical-tattoo-mentor-sidekick-love-interest-and-a-shit-load-of-enemies??

Whatever it is, it’s creepy.

*whispers*  Their eyes follow you. *shudders*

Reads, rants, randoms & R+s. You've been warned. BTW, don't follow me if you're a GLBTQQphobic wanker. It won't end well. For you.

Have you seen that website of the author who tries to replicate the women on UF and Fantasy covers? I don't remember who posted it but it was hilarious. I think he needed to see a chiropractor after some of them. He said they were painful and nearly impossible poses. Ah, found it. http://www.jimchines.com/2012/01/striking-a-pose/

Oh photoshop you minx for tricking us into thinking real girls could look like that.

  2. Chris says:

And what's with the belt? They all need some sort of belt.

Here's a video about the tramp stamps, too:

  3. orannia says:

Umm…yeah. But especially the magical-tattoo-mentor-sidekick-love-interest. I mean, how many of those are there around, and if there are that many how come I haven't met one? (Although to be honest, I think I'd give him up if I could go and be part of Deacon and Crick's (from Amy Lane's KPR πŸ™‚ family *grin*

  4. heidenkind says:

    Um. *eyes PNR books nervously*

How will I be able to sleep tonight, Kris???

  5. Kris says:

Tam: Those pics are too funny.

Some of the chicks on those covers he was trying to mimic look like they have been doing yoga from the womb. Or they could be possessed in a Linda-Blair-revolving-head way.

Chris: THOSE ARE MAGICAL TATTOOS, NOT TRAMP STAMPS!!

Orannia: You're such an Amy Lane fangurl. LOL

Oh, and if one of those guys are ever found, I call first dibs on having meaningless sex with him.

Heidenkind: “How will I be able to sleep tonight, Kris???”

Do you happen to have a silver-lined lead casket handy? One which has protective runes on the outside and can be sealed with the holy orders of a Shaolin monk?? I hear that this might work.

  6. Chris says:

    Uh-huh. Sure they are. πŸ˜€

  7. K. Z. Snow says:

Oh, gawd, you had to get me started on how much I hate, hate, hate UF fiction with female protagonists. They all seem to dress the same and talk the same and act the same, and the pure Mary Sue-ism of it all is more than I can stand.

    I think LKH ruined the whole subgenre for me, 'cause I've been traumatized since I first encountered the ick-inducing what's-her-name with the Nikes. With swooshes. (See? I'm repressing.) {{{shudder}}}

  8. Kris says:

Chris: O ye of little faith.

KZ: I believe I've heard this rant a time or 10 before. Trust me – there's no repression there at all. πŸ˜›

I liked Anita(?) to begin with; the contrast between being a Christian and a sociopath, but then came the sex, and the sex, and more, would you believe, SEX. Even I, perve that I am, want more out of series than just PWP.

  9. Natasha says:

Oh you had one of those mysterious-benefactor-leaves-you-strange-magical- etc etc etc moments as well 0_0

    Tish

Veriword gaterall is that mean gate to hell? Oooooooo

  10. Kris says:

Tish: I have them all the time, but then they go away once they realise I'm too lazy for that saving the world shit.

“Veriword gaterall is that mean gate to hell? Oooooooo”

Tish hun, you grew up in Perth. You know that in summer it becomes the hell gate. I just wish Spike would turn up.

  11. Tracy says:

LOL All True! I love your thinking.

  12. Kris says:

    Tracy: “I love your thinking.”

    Doesn't everyone??

  13. Kris says:

Are you implying that there are some who might actually dislike me?? zOMG!
