maybe it’s me, but…

… you know how I was rabbiting on about the weird things that strike you when you’re reading??

I read this the other day and there’s a scene in it where one of the protags is blowdrying his hair before he braided it because he’d heard that hair got mouldy when you put it up wet.

All I could think of was ‘oh shit’.

*sigh* It’s true. Some boys are better girls than I am. I seriously suck. 😦

I think that's bullshit. LOL I've never heard of that and if its true, I suppose he is a better girl than I.

I must get that and read it before August. Eeep.

  2. Tracy says:

Really? I don't think so. Who'd he hear it from, the hair police? I braid my kids' hair all the time when it's wet and it never gets moldy. Green, yes…but not moldy! lol

  3. Kris says:

Okay, okay. *deep breaths* I'm calming down now.

You both think it's bullshit and you're both Mums so you should know this kind of stuff, right??

    Right??

  4. Tracy says:

Um, yeah. Sure. Yeah, we're moms and that's how we know. Alright, alright, it's all bullshit. Seriously my kids hair never gets moldy or green so I'm pretty sure you're safe!

  5. Tam says:

Mine's never had moldy hair and the whole POINT Of braiding wet hair is it makes it nice and kinky. Its the only way my kid can get any kind of curl in her poker straight mop. She will sleep with wet braids and then look coolio in the morning. We haven't done that for awhile.

    So yeah, he's whack.

  6. Kris says:

    *Phew!*

“the whole POINT Of braiding wet hair is it makes it nice and kinky”

Really?? *So that's why my hair goes even curlier than usual.*

  7. Tracy says:

Tam – my little one loves that kinky hair too. Although as she gets older her hair is getting thicker and it's not dry by the time she wakes up in the AM. Bummer.

  8. Lily says:

Definitely not true. I've slept with wet braids many many times, no moldy hair. Both my daughters and now my 2 year old granddaughter also.

All you get is the cool looking hair 🙂

  9. I think you can rest easy on this, Kris (though I know what you mean — I'm obviously not as much of a fashion plate as this book character either, and it's the kind of thing I'd be wondering about). But I did the whole braid thing that the others have mentioned as a teenager; no problems. I even went out with wet long hair when it was cold enough to freeze, and even that didn't do any harm.

  10. orannia says:

Say what? I always..well, when I actually had semi-long hair anyway…put it up wet. And now I'm thinking of that Lorelei James book 'Rode Hard and Put up Wet'. What is happening to me?

And wish my hair had even a little bit of kink. It's so dead straight it isn't funny…and fine… *mutter mutter*

  11. Jenre says:

I never blow dry my hair. It's so thick that it takes about an hour to blow dry and, to be honest, I can't be arsed with anything that cuts into my reading time.

This means I often tie my head back when it's wet and, yep, hasn't gone green and mouldy yet.

I don't plait it tho, that's a bit too complicated – I can plait my own kids hair, just not my own – it ends up wonky, if I try.

  12. LesleyW says:

Nope he's not a better girl than you, but he's definitely gullible.

Sounds like one of those homilies that parents use to get kids to do what the parents want them to do.

Lol – and I've also got to read this one.

  13. Kris says:

What you are all basically saying is that I make a semi-decent girl after all. Whodathunkit, but thanks!

You know I have a good mind to write to ZAM and tell her that her character scared the shit out of me with this comment!

  14. Kris says:

“I'm obviously not as much of a fashion plate as this book character either, and it's the kind of thing I'd be wondering about”

Thank God you said this, Val. I was beginning to wonder if it really WAS me this time. LOL.

  15. Mumma J says:

Sweetheart, you ARE a girl, just not GIRLY, but that's okay, I love pink so much that I quite often use your share!

  16. Kris says:

    LOL. Good point, Mumma.

  17. Tracy says:

Kris loves pink – just look at her avi! 🙂

  18. Kris says:

Believe me there is no comparison.
