Dear Wanker

Did we or did we not have an agreement about changing the book covers mid series after my legal case exposed your discrimination against people with OCD?

Well?!

Then tell me what the fuck this crap is:

And don’t try and give me some bullshit about it being a mistake:

Yeah, you fucker.

It’s on now.

Sit on this *obscene finger gesture* and rotate, Kris.

About Kris

Reads, rants, randoms & R+s. You've been warned. BTW, don't follow me if you're a GLBTQQphobic wanker. It won't end well. For you.

  1. Chris says:

Wait, where are the second covers in each example from?! I've only seen the fist covers…

  2. Lea says:

    ROFL

I think the publisher had better listen to this message Kris..

veri word: frade – What the publisher will be when he/she reads this post… 😉

  3. The green pukey Lover Mine Cover is horrid. One for the US team! booyah!

  4. That bugs me too Kris, but what REALLY ticks me off is when a series starts off in all paperbacks THEN along comes the hardcover! ACK! I hate hardcovers – they don't fit in my pocketbook/purse!

    MsM

    word verification: cremin (hehe)

  5. Eyre says:

Why do publishers do that? They did that crap with the JD Robb series. It's annoying.

    veri word–monapat

Is that some new cure for yeast infections? The fact that MsM's word was cremin and I get monapat . . . well, that's just creepy.

  6. Give them hell hon – I have been saying that for years..

Briggs cover is horrid – that's the UK cover..

    E.H>

  7. Juniper says:

    Kris

Who could fail to be moved by such an restrained plea?

& Chris – I'd love to see the 'fist' covers – bet that's something to behold?

Veri – splats – those publishers it they don't listen to you, I would imagine.

  8. Chris says:

*sigh* I should proof my comments better…

    veri: spitia

    Heh!

  9. Jenre says:

The JR Ward UK covers have all been pretty awful. This green one is no exception.

    You'd hate my bookshelves, Kris.

  10. ElaineG says:

I hate when they do that! ARGH! I get all excited thinkin, OH a NEW book by one of my favorite authors…THEN I look at the title, and get annoyed! Stupid ploy to get us that have short memories (or no memories) to buy a book I freakin have already….buttheads!

  11. What's with all the word veri mentioning? Mine is 'fabla'. I don't have something clever to say about that 😉

Oh, right, the book covers. Very annoying. Glad I hardly buy dead tree books…

  12. Anonymous says:

SEE… that's what is stopping me from getting a new set of Heyer books. (Since you wrecked my first set. *mutterkidsmutter*

veri: mursica – it's too early and I've just seen Ger 2, Aus 0 and I am just a wee bit upset.

  13. Kris says:

Chris: It's the Brit/Oz version. They suck.

    Lea: They'd better. Or else.

    Katiebabs chook: It's blechy.

MsM: I HATE THAT!!!! I may have ranted about it a time or two before as well. They're doing the Cast's YA series in hardcover from now on I've heard. Yet another one goes down the drain. FUCKING PISSES ME OFF!!

    *deep breaths*

    *oooooommmmmmmmm*

  14. Kris says:

Eyre: They've wrecked the J D Robb series covers. Plus the fact that the chick on the cover has long hair and Eve's is short. Fuckers should learn how to read before playing with photoshop.

EH: I can't believe they changed that gorgeous artwork of the Briggs' covers to that crappy silhouette thing. It's boring with nothing of Mercy's personality at all. The bastages.

Juni: It will be splats for them!

“Who could fail to be moved by such an restrained plea?”

You don't think it was too subtle?? I was a bit worried about that.

Jen: “You'd hate my bookshelves, Kris.”

Are you trying to tempt me to come visit you, Jen? 😉

  15. Tam says:

I think the second one is ugly. Why do that? Sigh. If you've already paid for one cover, why pay for more? Seems like poor business sense to me.

  16. Kris says:

Elaine: I've done that too. Nothing more frustrating than sitting down all ready to get into a 'new' book by one of your fave authors and you discover that you've read the fucking thing already. Grrrrrrrrr.

Janna: It's certainly reason enough to stop buying print books. Maybe a campaign to stop cover destruction by buying ebooks would hit them in their profits. Hmmmm….

Mumma: I DID NOT WRECK YOUR GEORGETTE HEYER'S! It's not my fault that their like a billion years old or whenever the hell you bought them when you were a teen.

Tam: I'm pretty sure it's got something to do with deals made by the publishing houses in the different countries where the books are printed. I think it's bullshit myself. Hello? Branding anyone?? Dumb arses.

  17. Anonymous says:

Geez, you are one angry girlchild this morning aren't ya?

  18. Kris says:

Mumma: Well, people have been picking on me on Twitter AND goodreads AND it's the morning AND it's Monday AND I have a meeting at 9am. 😦

  19. Kris says:

Amy: It is true. I have an awesome way with words. 😉

  20. And that's interesting b/c I've seen some foreign covers that are absolutely amazing whereas the American versions sucked…or at least weren't as good.

    Veri word: toric…torid's cousin. heh

  21. Val says:

Kris, yes, totally! You're in good company. I don't like it when the covers change because I'll buy it over again by mistake, and my husband gets wound up about it from an aesthetic point of view — he wants the series in the collection to have the same type of cover. Is that too much to ask? I don't think so.

And this: “Sit on this *obscene finger gesture* and rotate”

Priceless! My college roommate used to come up with that (“Sit on it and spin!”) for every conceivable situation that might require a reaction (it used to make me laugh every time …)

  22. Kaetrin says:

I'm with you Kris. I wasn't very happy about the JD Robb covers changing either. And, don't even get me started when they not only change the style but they change the SIZE too! Just wrecks my lovely shelves. sigh…

  23. Kris says:

Bridget: Srsly?? Usually it's always the other way around. At least in my experience it has been.

Val: “Is that too much to ask? I don't think so.”

    Me either. #publisherfail

PS – I'm adding priceless to my descriptors. It suits me so. 😉

Kaetrin: I've been know to have a tantrum about this in the middle of Dymocks and my poor girls at the tame romance bookstore now know to warn me when there is to be a change in format. Forewarned lessens Kris' rants or something like that.

I DESPISE it when they go from mass PB to trade PB. They are always bloody doing that in Oz. Fuckers.

  24. Natasha says:

    Oh dear,
Please say NO if I ask you to come stay with me. Your OCD wouldn't be able to handle living in my house for more than a few minutes LOL! Most of my book series are not only different sizes but have at least 3 different ccovers. One set has pictures, flowers and then drawings. And they go from paperback to big paperback.
I also don't colour code or put series together…. bad me!
    tish

ps. explaut….. they give me veri words that suit my mood 🙂

  25. Juniper says:

I just hate the changes made to the MJ Pearson books – The Price of Temptation & Discreet Young Gentleman.

The original covers were fantastic – so 1980's bodice rippers (zipper ripper, really as m/m) & definitely smuggling a ferret, but the new versions – nooooo!

    Price original
    Price new

    Discreet original
    Discreet new

    Considering a petition!

  26. Sari says:

I don't really care if my book covers don't match within a series. With the BDB for example I have a couple of ebooks, a couple of US covers and then that unfortunate greenish thing.

One thing I hate though is when I buy an ebook that has a nice cover only in the ebookstore and the bought version doesn't have a cover at all 😦

  27. Val says:

I don't know why anyone would change those original Patricia Briggs covers – they're some of the best I've ever seen.

  28. @Val..

I so agree – I think the Mercy covers are some of Dos Santos best work to date…

    @Juniper
Thanks for the heads up on the new covers on those book -I literally bought those books for the original cover only…

What a wrong move that was to change those covers..

    E.H>

  29. Kris says:

Tish: I will be having nightmares tonight. Thanks. Thanks a lot.

Juni: Teddypig calls them 'codpiece rippers'. In the case of the original covers that description would definitely apply. LOL.

I wonder why they changed the covers? Maybe they thought the originals would cause offense? They were so distinctive though. What a shame.

Sari: “One thing I hate though is when I buy an ebook that has a nice cover only in the ebookstore and the bought version doesn't have a cover at all :(“

Really?? How bloody odd. If anything you would think it would be the other way around. That makes no sense at all. Weird.

Val & EH: Word. I love the Mercy covers. This is actually one of those times when I'm actually contemplating buying from the dreaded US Amazon just so I can get the 'right' cover.

  30. hdsmith says:

    Zipper Ripper – snort!

Your first post on this was the first time I ever saw someone use the descriptor fucktard. It is still apt in this situation.

  31. Kris says:

Heidi: Fucktard continues to be my preferred way of referring to these wankers; however, I didn't want to seem too repetitive or lacking in my vocabulary.

  32. orannia says:

I am so right behind you on this. Us folk with OCD need to stick together!

And my verification word is mistidd…yup, it sure is a misdeed dear publisher!

  33. Kris says:

Orannia: Right on, Sister! Damn the man!
