It’s really not that scary this time. Promise. 🙂
I was just wondering…
Do you prefer reading m/m romance and erotica with characters who have a top/bottom relationship or do you like a ‘versatile’ (TM Emilie) couple?
Or are you too pervy to give a toss either way?
Guess which choice my money is on. 😉
Sharing's not the same as plagiarism is it? Just checking.
Reads, rants, randoms & R+s. You've been warned. BTW, don't follow me if you're a GLBTQQphobic wanker. It won't end well. For you.

Count me in as pervy 😉 However the character wanna go is alright with me 🙂
Ditto what Mariana said. Sometimes it works where the roles are clearly defined and sometimes it works great when they switch it up.
I have to say that I do particulary like scenes where one character gets to do it for the first time if they've always bottomed. That's always fun to read about. One of my favourites is in Mel Spenser's Miss Me when Andy confesses he'd like to try it and they do it on vacation in Mexico.
I like'em to mix it up. Balance and symmetry. Must be my OCD? LOL
Huh? I really don't care. Not in fiction. In RL… that would be TMI. 🙂
Seriously Matthew, there is not TMI here. 😀
If I had to pick, I guess I'd say I like switch hitters best, but just barely. It really depends on the couple, the storyline, and the dynamic the author is going for. They're all good to me.
I guess your money is on pervy. And in my case you'd win that bet. 🙂 As long as the characters convince me they are happy with the situation, I can take it any way they give it to me. 😉
What do you like best?
I'm too pervy to give a toss either way, ha, ha!
I'm purvy too. If it fits the story, I like it.
Uh, Kris, I did not make up the term “versatile” in that context. I like that sometimes in a romance, but if both characters are happy in defined roles, that's okay with me, too.
I believe you had “someone who's always topped becoming a bottom and loving it for that one special guy” in your twu luv list. A sudden change of heart (I was going to say “switch”) doesn't especially work for me if there's no rationale there.
*raise hand and admits she's a perv*
I like it when they're versatile.
Why does the title “Kris is curious” send cold shivers down my spine?
For me, it depends on the book. I mostly like 'switchers' but I can also go for a definite top/bottom pairing too, although there something quite delicious about a definite top who lets the bottom have a go now and again.
Count me in as pervy too. I like it all.
Though I'm with Jen in that there's something quite nice about a definite top bottoming every now and then. And now I have this sudden urge to go find/rewatch the one QAF episode where Brian bottomed for Justin.
Jenre's got it right. It is a very delicious power play when the top allows the bottom a go!
I claim pervy too =D
i like them to switch it up sometimes,
i dont want vanilla manlove =P
Mariana: The first perve. You should be so of yourself, Mariana.
Tam: ” have to say that I do particulary like scenes where one character gets to do it for the first time if they've always bottomed. That's always fun to read about.”
I really like those scenes too, Tam. Awww and smexy at the same time. All good stuff. *grin*
FV: Don't you mean your CDO? 😛
Matthew: Friggin' tease! You can tell us. None of us would breathe a word. Pinky swear.
JenB: “If I had to pick, I guess I'd say I like switch hitters best, but just barely.”
I think I'm a bit the same. I like switches, but there is something so delicious about a top and a bottom together…
Janna: Unrepentant perve number 2. Me?? I think I need to read a lot more evidence before I decide. 😉
Val: I'm shocked!
Jambrea: I'm not shocked about you though. 😛
I'm SO on the pervy boat lol!
OMG……my veri word?
which brings to mind all kinds of pervy things….maybe I need to read for a bit and settle that down?
Emilie: LOL. I know. It was just that your recent post talking about Chrolli got me curious about what readers like.
“I believe you had “someone who's always topped becoming a bottom and loving it for that one special guy” in your twu luv list.”
Yep. I just don't buy that at all. A scene where the top switches to give his partner a go or to show the depth of his feelings is something different. A total switch though?? Ummm, no.
Eyre: Why am I not surprised. ;P
Jenre: “Why does the title “Kris is curious” send cold shivers down my spine?”
Cos you're a wuss??
“there something quite delicious about a definite top who lets the bottom have a go now and again”
Oh, yes. I feel another 'best ofs' post coming on. *g*
Richelle: “And now I have this sudden urge to go find/rewatch the one QAF episode where Brian bottomed for Justin.”
SNAP! I love that scene!
I like reading about switches.
And I have to confess to being cranky at the On Fire books by Drew Zachary because Sam admitted to never ever having topped – and Robert didn't step up to invite him to give it a shot. It was never mentioned again.
*sigh* Stupid blogger. Why won't you let me subscribe to comments when I'm signing in??
Miranda: Okay. I'm definitely doing that post. Better do some rereading of my fave top/bottom stories. Oh, the things I do for you. 😀
Sparklybearsy: Vanilla and manlove. Now there's two words that I never thought I'd see together on this blog. LOL.
Elaine: Blogger knew you were on the pervy boat which is why it gave you that veri word.
Chris: “And I have to confess to being cranky at the On Fire books by Drew Zachary because Sam admitted to never ever having topped – and Robert didn't step up to invite him to give it a shot. It was never mentioned again.”
The bastard. You'd think he'd take one for the team, right.
He did offer, sort of. He said he'd do it if Sam wanted even though it wasn't his thing and then Sam freaked out and said “no no, it's good”. So neither one of them really pushed it. Mind you, Robert didn't like giving blow jobs much either.
But that was early days in their relationship, right, the (sort of grudging) offer?
I gotta say that I'm a mix it up kinda girl. I like to see the “top” taking one for the team at least one during a story. 🙂
Tracy: Twu wuv means you have to bottom at least once. 😉
It was grudgind and early on. But I guess some people are content with the way it is.
As a m/m newbie, so far I haven't read many. However, there's something really unbelievably sexy about two sexy dominant men who kinda have to fight over who tops whom. Then again, I'm new, so I might not know what I'm talking about.
One of my books is definitely looking like it'll be a m/m. Can I send it to you for critiquing when I get to that point? 😀
I've posted a few times about fan fiction speculation running rampant when it isn't made explicit in a show which character takes what role. I've seen that with several shows. There was a discussion session tangent on fan fiction at the Gays of Our Lives event that was hilarious: http://www.youtube.com/user/husky14620#p/u/14/wsKGMPRRRSQ. Some of the actors are keenly aware of the things the people in their fandoms do.
Okay… Just call me a freaking pervy… Cuz I like it all up in my kool-aid, lmbo.
The book does dictate to me what I am in for… and I do not mind. Every once in a blue moon I would like to see things different between characters, but I trust the author will get me to the ending I want. But if I had my way… Oh yeah…. perv city.
Is this where I tell you I like it both ways? *snickers*
Seriously, depending on the storyline, it's all good!
The position of the guy on the bottom in that pic does not look comfortable; just sayin'.
Bridget: “However, there's something really unbelievably sexy about two sexy dominant men who kinda have to fight over who tops whom.”
That's true, Bridget. There was one short I read where that happened and the boys then started arguing about who got to bottom the next time. It was such a fun role reversal. 😕
And, absolutely I will beta read for you. It'd be a pleasure, Ms I'm-not-sure-I'll-ever-read-m/m. 😉
Emilie: I haven't seen the clip from GOOL. Reminds me of the Supernatural boys alluding to the fan fic about them. 🙂
Cecile: And there speaketh the smutty hussy. 😉
Patti: *snickers* Someone had to say it. I'm just surprised that it's taken this long.
You think he doesn't look comfortable? I think he's looking at the other guy with a 'c'mon and get me' dare. I love it. 🙂
I like it all as long as it's written well. I really like switchers and defined top/bottom relationships can be pretty sexy too. But when a true top 'bottoms' for his love, that is oh so very hot! 😉
Hmmm…it depends…I'm on the fence, but probably leaning towards defined though. *blushes*
Pervy and proud of it 🙂
In RL bottoms are sexier, especially when they admit it.
yeah, I fired up the laptop and now can see the veri word again.
Lily: “But when a true top 'bottoms' for his love, that is oh so very hot! ;)”
Indeed it is. 🙂
Orannia: You are so cute when you blush. 😉
Tish: Colour me sooo surprised. 😛
Kris, you are toooo good to me! 😀
To answer your first question: I am pervy. Pervert sounds so nasty old manish..lol
Next question: It doesnt really matter to me. I think it depends on the character. If the character likes being a total top or a total bottom let him be in that role. In RL, that is how it is..Many guys like being a clear defined role, others like being vers.
In RL, it always baffling to me how there is so much baggage placed on whatever roles u are in a bedroom. Meaning if you are a bottom, that means you are submissive or “less than a man” versus a top who is ALL MAN. It should be like what you like and who cares about all that extra baggage. Gay men can get in an uproar and a tizzy about such things. In a way, it is kinda refreshing to read a character who is very comfortable in whatever role he likes.
Ironically, I really like the clear y defined roles of the “seme” and “uke”..I like the whole seme dominating over the uke fantasy aspect of it..In fact, in RL, i want to start using the terms seme and uke more..much more classier than top or bottom.–;-)
PS: Am I a seme or uke? Inquiring minds want to know….;-) LOL
Word verification: schlog:
Ozakie likes nice schlogs in his M/M and in RL. Word.
Miranda: *sigh* I know. *humming as she chooses books for her ereader*
Ozakie: Hey you! *smooches* I just found you on Twitter so that I can talk to you more. I miss you when you're not around. 🙂
I find that kind of distinction in RL as equally as baffling as you, Ozakie. I mean if we were going to think of it in those terms I would say that it takes more of a man to submit/make himself vulnerable to his partner than it does to run the show.
I also reckon you should start using seme and uke if not to do anything anything else than mess with everyone. LOL.
*sigh* But you're as big a tease as Matthew. I wish you would just tell us if you are ukes or not before the curiosity kills m- err, I mean us. 😉
I like it either way! I do like to know one way or another though. – Hey do you remember in Tigers & Devils when the main character gets asked if he's the “woman” by his dad and he talks about how rude that question is and how it's like asking a hetero couple what their favourite sexual position is? Well, I felt really guilty after reading it because, as a reader, I want to know!! (Naturally, I would never actually ask someone though!!).
I have been away for a week on holidays Kris and I have missed your blog, especially the nice pics!
How about I will reveal my seme or uke status if Matthew does! haha
Word verification: slymo
Ozakie is such a sly-mo for not revealing his preference..:-P
Kaetrin: “Naturally, I would never actually ask someone though!!.”
Umm, me neither.
Ha. Ha. Ha…
“I have been away for a week on holidays Kris and I have missed your blog, especially the nice pics!”
Awww, thanks, sweet. Hope you had a nice break. 🙂
Ozakie: Meanie! *off to annoy the shit out of Matthew*
