Do you prefer reading m/m romance and erotica with characters who have a top/bottom relationship or do you like a ‘versatile’ (TM Emilie) couple?
Or are you too pervy to give a toss either way?

Ditto what Mariana said. Sometimes it works where the roles are clearly defined and sometimes it works great when they switch it up.
I have to say that I do particulary like scenes where one character gets to do it for the first time if they've always bottomed. That's always fun to read about. One of my favourites is in Mel Spenser's Miss Me when Andy confesses he'd like to try it and they do it on vacation in Mexico.
I like'em to mix it up. Balance and symmetry. Must be my OCD? LOL

If I had to pick, I guess I'd say I like switch hitters best, but just barely. It really depends on the couple, the storyline, and the dynamic the author is going for. They're all good to me.

Uh, Kris, I did not make up the term “versatile” in that context. I like that sometimes in a romance, but if both characters are happy in defined roles, that's okay with me, too.

For me, it depends on the book. I mostly like 'switchers' but I can also go for a definite top/bottom pairing too, although there something quite delicious about a definite top who lets the bottom have a go now and again.

I've posted a few times about fan fiction speculation running rampant when it isn't made explicit in a show which character takes what role. I've seen that with several shows. To answer your first question: I am pervy. Pervert sounds so nasty old manish..lol
Next question: It doesnt really matter to me. I think it depends on the character. If the character likes being a total top or a total bottom let him be in that role. In RL, that is how it is..Many guys like being a clear defined role, others like being vers.
In RL, it always baffling to me how there is so much baggage placed on whatever roles u are in a bedroom. Meaning if you are a bottom, that means you are submissive or “less than a man” versus a top who is ALL MAN. It should be like what you like and who cares about all that extra baggage. Gay men can get in an uproar and a tizzy about such things. In a way, it is kinda refreshing to read a character who is very comfortable in whatever role he likes.
Ironically, I really like the clear y defined roles of the “seme” and “uke”..I like the whole seme dominating over the uke fantasy aspect of it..In fact, in RL, i want to start using the terms seme and uke more..much more classier than top or bottom.–;-)
PS: Am I a seme or uke? Inquiring minds want to know….;-) LOL

I find that kind of distinction in RL as equally as baffling as you, Ozakie. I mean if we were going to think of it in those terms I would say that it takes more of a man to submit/make himself vulnerable to his partner than it does to run the show.
