  1. Tam says:

Yes I do. Hence the joy of headless torsos. Although even then when the one guys is 5'7″ and 110 lbs and both guys on the cover have the bodies of body builders it also annoys me. There should be SOME effort made to match or just put on a puppy or a kitten.

  2. Tam says:

Oh, not that the guy on the cover's not hot, but there's no mistaking his hairstyle for long and blond.

  3. Maybe he goes through some sort of identity change or something?

  4. Mandi says:

BOO..I really hate that. Dude has nice eyes though.

  5. Sean Kennedy says:

    I don't care. He's hot.

  6. Amy Lane says:

A hair cut and a dye? A “We've got a hot guy so to hell witht he description”?

don't know… but the guy IS hot!

  7. O_o Indeed! Personally, I would rather have the wrong color than some of the horrible Photoshop dye jobs I've see.

  8. Chris says:

What Stephani said – can't you just picture this guy if they'd 'shopped in appropriate hair and eyes?!

    You're welcome.

  9. But seriously, they couldn't find a cover model that at least had the right hair? I'm sure Kenyon's books make enough moola that the publisher could look a little harder?

Or maybe it's a case of the publisher saying: We know what the readers like.

  10. Jenre says:

Yep, tees me off too. What's more annoying is that I often can't get the cover model out of my head, so the character looks like the model regardless of any description.

Actually, sometimes that happens without a cover model. I get an idea in my head of what the character looks like and then when after a few pages I discover they are brown haired instead of blond, I can't get the image to veer away from my own made up image.

It's like the name Simon. All Simons are blond in my head. Why is that?

Except for Simon in Tigers and Devils. Now that is strange.

  11. ACK!!!!!!!!

That is a HUGE ENORMOUS book peeve of mine! I HATE when the cover doesn't match the story!

I read a Lora Leigh book about a Harley biker dude with long black hair, a beard and he always wore jeans with holes and black leather chaps over them.

The cover had a clean shaven guy with a buzz cut hair style and he was wearing khaki pants! ACK!

I ranted about it on my blog but it didn't make me feel any better. The hot biker hunk would have been such a great cover as the book was really great. Total cover FAIL though.

  12. Kris says:

Tam: “Hence the joy of headless torsos.”

Yes. Hard to fuck up hair and eyes when there's no head.

Wren: “Maybe he goes through some sort of identity change or something?”

After I read the character description, I decided to give the cover the benefit of the doubt before I ripped it off and shred it into teeny tiny pieces.

Needless to say that I was disappointed that there was no such disguise or identity change.

    Stoopid cover.

Mandi: But are they friggin' blue?! 😦

  13. Kris says:

    Ren: Bad cover! Bad!

    Sean: Take your pervery elsewhere.

Amy: ” A “We've got a hot guy so to hell witht he description”?”

I reckon that's probably it. Plus most of the guys on the English covers of SK's books look very similar to this. Part of the branding maybe??

  14. Kris says:

Stephani: “Personally, I would rather have the wrong color than some of the horrible Photoshop dye jobs I've see.”

Good point. Kinda reminds me of a certain floating head… 😛

    Chris: “You're welcome.”

*snort* Why am I getting the feeling that we're all spending too much time together?

Wren: “I'm sure Kenyon's books make enough moola that the publisher could look a little harder?”

Exactly! I hate it when publishers do shit like this. It's like the total fuck up they've made of the Nora Roberts 'In Death' covers. They're absolute crap now.

  15. Kris says:

    KBC: Indeed. Bloody stupid thing.

Jenre: “What's more annoying is that I often can't get the cover model out of my head, so the character looks like the model regardless of any description.”

Yes! That happens to me too.

“Except for Simon in Tigers and Devils. Now that is strange.”

Now I wonder why this sprang to your mind. 😉

MsM: “That is a HUGE ENORMOUS book peeve of mine! I HATE when the cover doesn't match the story!”

Solidarity! It drives me absolutely bat shit when this happens. Seriously, how fucking hard is it for a publisher to actually, oh, I don't know, READ the book to make sure the cover and story match?? Wankers.

  16. Twimom227 says:

YES… This is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. Don't bother putting a model on the cover if it has nothing to do with the characters!

  17. Eyre says:

Ugh! That really bugs me. I agree that it's better than photoshopped hair, but Kenyon's books bring in lots of cash. I think the publisher could afford to do better than that.

  18. Kris says:

Jen: “Don't bother putting a model on the cover if it has nothing to do with the characters!”

Word. I'd even rather have a Twilightfied cover than something which is totally different to the book. *kiss, kiss*

Eyre: “I think the publisher could afford to do better than that.”

Yup. It's bullshit and comes across as not giving a toss.

  19. JenB says:

To be honest, I'm not the type to notice. Most of the men on book covers are faceless to me–even the ones whose faces are shown.

Also, any man with long blond hair will automatically be changed into a man with short dark hair in my mind, so in this case I prefer the cover. 😀

  20. Kris says:

JenB: Faceless men? You trying to tell us something, Jen? 😛

“Also, any man with long blond hair will automatically be changed into a man with short dark hair in my mind, so in this case I prefer the cover. :D”

LOL! I take it you're a brunettte kind of a girl.

  21. Tracy says:

lol Yes, yes I do hate that. Or when the guys have short hair in the book and they have one of the guys on the cover with long flowing locks. Ug. WHY??? 🙂

  22. Kris says:

Tracy: “Or when the guys have short hair in the book and they have one of the guys on the cover with long flowing locks.”

God yes! Have you noticed that it always seems to be the 'warrior' type stories too – no matter the setting?! Poo!

  23. Mariana says:

LOL!!! This is hysterical! This would make me not buy the book… seriously, it would drive me insane.

  24. Kris says:

Mariana: Or at least by a version of the book with a generic cover. I'm still growling over it. My ability to grudge knows no end. 😛

  25. orannia says:

There should be SOME effort made to match or just put on a puppy or a kitten.

Or just a blank cover. Because, really, that's how much effort they are putting in…

    I don't care. He's hot.

The cover model? Yes. Definitely. The character description? Not to much 🙂

  26. Kris says:

Orannia: “Or just a blank cover. Because, really, that's how much effort they are putting in…”

I totally agree. This kind of issue just makes a publisher look incompetent. Not professional at all.
