Is it just me, but it seems that there are barely any stand alone books anymore? There has to be sequels and more book about the characters until we're in deep 20 books with no end in sight?
I blame LKH and JD Robb for it all.
No doubt. With my poor memory, it's a recipe for disaster, because I won't remember what the heck was happening in previous books.
Mmmm. I think I'm not smart enough to figure out that I should never start. I've sucked myself in more than once. But who knew?
I almost always get sucked in; although, there are some series that I have given up on even though I've read the first 25 or so books.
I wish I had the ability to do this, but alas I seem to get suckered in each time.

This is why it takes me SO freaking long to get through my TBR list and also why my TBB list is so ridiculously huge! I end up re-reading books cause the new one came out and I HAVE to get a little recall….I also seem to buy books, read 'em, realize there was a BACK STORY (or 6!)…buy those, read them in order, etc., etc., etc.! It's a viscous cycle and I see no end in sight *sigh*….But I guess I shouldn't complain cause I will always have something to read right? right? ugh 😉

It feels like that, doesn't it. I get intrigued by many blurbs etc and then I think to myself that I can't face starting yet another series. It's poo.

Tam: Maybe it's because I'm a fantasy reader with lots of experience in never ending series that I can pretty much recognise something similar when I come across it??

Having said that, I feel like I've been suckered in if I've invested in a series and to me it's gone nowhere. I've given up on two series like that recently because I didn't see the point of continuing with them when there wasn't really anything new happening with the story arc.

I admit I HATE when I discover that a book that's caught my eye is actually series and I have to go back and read from the beginning. My OCD won't allow me to do otherwise.

I hated it when I saw a spanking new shining sparkling sci fi/ fantasy book in the library and then to discover that it was a book 2 in a series on the white index card on the inside.
Luckily I don't think I've gotten into any series that are more than 7 books. It's a good thing too, because like Chris my memory is for shit. Unless I wait until the whole series is out and read them all one right after the other, I have to go back and re-read the old ones when a new comes out.

Yes, but what drives me nuts is…ME! Because when I read a standalone book I automatically want a sequel. Tigers and Devils being a classic example!
Kris – I'm currently reading an In Death book…the 30th to be precise. I don't think this series will ever end.
Orannia: I have a bookcase dedicated to the In Death books. I just hope the series ends before I have to move to another house. LOL.
I do ok with the In Death books because the basic story is so, well, basic. It's not filled with complex, critical details that you need to know in order to read the next books.
Chris: True. Also, they can easily be read as stand alones, which is another thing I like about them.
Yup happens more than a few time – but I am a sucker for cruel and unusual punishment and tend to fall right into their devious trap of series..
I really need to chip that chromosone out… imagine the other rubbish books I could have wasted valuable time on…
