“You want to shave me where?!”
I know I’ve touched upon a couple of fetishes already in my firsts series, but I thought it would be fun to highlight a few of the more, err, interesting ones I’ve come across.
One of those topping my
list has to do with the “let’s shave every inch of your body cos I like you smooth all over even though I’m a gorilla” kink, which is occasionally confused with the “don’t worry cos eyebrows are highly overrated” fetish.
I can only recall reading work by two authors on this theme. The first was in this short by the Author of (Apparently) All My Firsts and the second was in a BDSM m/f by Ann Jacobs.
Being a chick, I can totally understand the desire to have body parts hair free and to also appreciate it in others.
Not being someone who shaves though, – Why not? It fucking itches that’s why not! – I can honestly say that I’ve never experienced arousal whilst doing it nor do I have a desire to shave someone else in circumstances other than wrath and retribution.
What about you?
It’s okay to admit it if you do get off on it, you know.
Another great photo, Kris! I've read about this fetish before though unfortunately I can't think of any examples. But it's been BDSM oriented (no surprise there) and usually involved a fear-trust thing going where one guy would tie up the other and then shave his testicles with a straight razor. I kid you not. Life on the wild side, ha, ha!
Yes, I read about shaving in some of Sean Michael's Jarheads series books. I had heard of it before as far as being all smooth, but not as something that turns the person doing the shaving on. Jordan has a shaving scene in Channeling Morpheus 3: Manikin, but it's a horror scene in which Michael has (as usual) gotten himself into trouble and is trying to figure out how to get out of it.
Personally as a girl I get being smooth all over. If I was rich I'd get that laser hair removal on most (not 100%) of my hair and never have to shave/wax/cream again. Ahhhh.
I don't get it as a sexual turn-on, except for genital shaving I suppose. As someone said, the trust thing but no way in hell would I let someone near me with a straight razor. Eeek.
I did enjoy the Cherry Sours series. And it always does seem to be a hairy guy who likes a smooth one. When I read the first one though I was like WTF? Weirdos, but then I read the second and by the third I was totally into the guys, I still didn't really get it, but it obviously worked for both of them so more power to them.
I like a smooth chest on a guy and even the genitals looks fine hairless (or manscaped) but I don't think I'd want a guy with no hair on his legs, underarms, etc. I find a lack of underarm hair on guys kind of weird.
In Sean Michael's (who else) Personal Best there was a shaving scene but Michael was an Olympic swimmer and those guys do shave completely naked. It was done sexually but not simply for shaving sake. I guess if you have to shave anyway, may as well make it fun.
Love the photo! I really rather enjoyed those candy books by that author you pointed to, up until the shavee got his head shaved. I said to myself the whole way through those books please-don't-shave-his-head and then as soon as that happened, poof, no longer interested. Is that an un-fetish?
Trimmed works for me. I just finished reading a pretty hot erotic romance where the guy shaves the heroine and wants to use Nair down there.
Ouch le ouch. No sharp objects near the nether lips. Thx.
I like normal guys. Not gorillas, but not baby smooth either.
I don't find the act of shaving all that sexy either.
But then I'm not a guy. Straight guys seem to get off on the idea of shaving a woman, so I guess it makes sense that a gay guy would get off on the idea of shaving another guy.
As far as guys liking shaved guys…I suppose if they really do suck and lick each other's balls as much as m/m books would have us believe, I can't blame them for not wanting all those crinkly hairs down there.
Val: LOL. That photo is all win, isn't it, Val. Yes, it definitely seems to be associated with submission, but the thought of anyone coming close to me with a straight razor scares the complete crap out of me. To be honest, I admire the ability for someone to be able to do this. I know that I could not.
Emilie: You're right. There are plenty of stories out there where one or both protags shave or wax for the effect that it has, but not a heck of lot about the sexual pleasure of the act itself. It's an interesting one that's for sure.
Tam: I think it was you who introduced me to the Cherry Sours series, wasn't it? Like you, I was a bit
to begin with, but became invested in the journey of the two characters. Like you, I too find the notion completely terrifying, buth then again you're talking to the girl who, the few times she did shave, nearly ripped half her leg off.
Wren: LOL! Me too. The whole time I was going 'please no, please no'. Afterwards, I tried to bleach that scene from my memory and just remember my enjoyment of the rest of the story.
Katiebabs chook: Remind me to tell you the details about the f/f I read where one vamp used a wooden stake strap on on the other. Now that's sharp. O_O
JenB: “I suppose if they really do suck and lick each other's balls as much as m/m books would have us believe, I can't blame them for not wanting all those crinkly hairs down there.”
Good point. Me though, I can't help but getting majorly itchy whenever I read stories involving the theme. That part of me, whilst enjoying how that two guys get off on it, will always be whispering 'hell no'.
Hmmm. I didn't mind the head shaving. Lots of guys shave their heads and some look pretty hot, so I didn't find it all that weird.
I haven't read any of the mentioned Sean Michael stories, so… Smooth might be fun to experience on a guy, although I'm pretty sure I'd hate the stubbly growing back phase…
Tam, ordinarily I'd agree, but it just seemed read, err, odd in this case. Thinking about it now I've no idea why.
Chris, God! Can you imagine the places that could get razor rash? Ow.
That's my problem, “the stubbly growing back phase”! Do you imagine how terrible must be the itching and what kind of hair grows back? Because in those SM's books (and the Cherry Sours ones aren't the only ones with this particularly kink) the shaving is quite frequent… I'm horrified at the thought of some once innocent-looking, soft body hair that shave after shave ends up becoming some kind of mutant, hard, dark vines!
I hate body hair, but, well, on me – on men, when it isn't too much (e.g. no hair on shoulders please) I kinda like it. It's damn sexy.
Count me in in the “that's gonna be really itchy/ uncomfortable when it grows back” group.
I guess if you're doing a lot of oral, a shaved area might be nice, but I don't really get the arousal from actually doing the shaving. My husband shaved my legs for me a couple of times when I was 8 months pregnant and couldn't reach, and there was nothing at all arousing about it.
Maybe people get off on the trust issue of it? After all, you have to trust someone a lot to let them near your privates with a sharp object. Or maybe they get excited about thinking how it's gonna look/ feel after?
Personally I like hair on guys. Except facial hair.
Heads, chests — okay, I can kind of understand it. But there's something sort of pedophiliac about a grown man wanting his adult partner, male or female, to be bare down there. A phobia about hair would justify it, but otherwise…?
Sara: “I'm horrified at the thought of some once innocent-looking, soft body hair that shave after shave ends up becoming some kind of mutant, hard, dark vines!”
Exactly. Waxing I can go with. Shaving. *shudders*
Richelle: There seem to be a lot of us. There is something very ritualistic about shaving when it's associated with BDSM. That I can totally understand. The straight razor, no. And the aftercare, definitely no.
KZ: I've read a couple of m/f where that aspect came through either loud and clear or was hinted at. The thought absolutely disgusted me.
I've never come across it before in any of the m/m I've read where the act was more to do with submission than any sort of 'deviant' behaviour. Two totally different things. Thank fuck.
You've got a great talent for finding just the right pic for your posts.
SM was the first to introduce the shaving fetish in my M/M reading. I was a bit taken aback at first but I can see how if he's going to have his guys pretty much attached lip to groin being smooth might be fun.
Let us all take a moment to consider where the first series would be without SM. π
Kris as an American you pretty much have to shave as a lady otherwise you'll probably get stoned to death, or something. It really sucks to be a girl sometimes. I'm a big fan of shaving though, I find it very sensuous. This might be TMI but on a man I also prefer the less is more regarding hair. I make hubs shave it all! Why? Because if I'm going to do it then by god so is he!
BTW during the intimate moments in a book I find it sexy when the hero murmurs “your bare that is so sexy”. Not the actual act of shaving/waxing.
I've read the SM shaving fetish books. I was fine with it right up until he shaved his head. That seemed a bit too much like taking away his identity for me.
One scene that springs to mind, and Emilie has mentioned it too, isn't a fetish as such, but in Channelling Morpheus: Manikin by JCP, a crazy lady vamp shaves Michael and Wild Bill finds it a huge turn on when he finds out. Something to do with his skin feeling all silky-soft without the hair being in the way. I could understand that – plus there's a bit of black comedy attached to the hair growing back.
I don't mind the shaving of various places if it turns on the shaver/shavee, but some places are meant to have hair at all times. Case in point, EYEBROWS and EYELASHES! seriously how is someone not having eyebrows sexy?? I don't remember which book that was probably SM's velvet glove series.
As for me, my hubby likes it and since I am too lazy to do it he gets to shave me, knowing if he hurts me I will get my revenge…
Suzi.
I love hair Kris..
Some area shaved is understandstable and really neccessary…
But I love hair on legs, chest, sprinkling on the arms…
mmmmhhh
Hair made the top ten on the list of “Hubby Must have” when I went looking…
Love the pic…
E.H>
I do like the man's happy trail but if his back is so hairy he can knit a sweater with hi back hair, then that is a sign he needs to wax or trim.
Shaving someone else's beard can be very erotic (but not genital shaving, I don't find that a turn-on at all. What if their hand slips? Ouch.). In Downtime by Tamara Allen there was a very hot shaving scene (Regency-style!) and I read one in an online story too that I really liked.
I don't see it so much as a fetish though (maybe cuz I'm not into shaving the bits or the legs for that matter), I just think it speaks of trust and intimacy and that gets me going! π
Lily: “but I can see how if he's going to have his guys pretty much attached lip to groin being smooth might be fun”
Absolutely. Part of me, thought, is snorting and thinking 'have fun while it lasts pal. it'll itching and be ripping you to shreds soon enough'.
Chris: Yes, indeed. In fact, I think I'm actually going to go hunting for a firsts that doesn't involve SM.
KC, you really think there is such thing as TMI here??
“I make hubs shave it all! Why? Because if I'm going to do it then by god so is he!”
LOL! That's too funny. Didn't you say you were hoping to talk him into nipple rings? Bare skin + nipple rings = Merow!
Must admit I like the effect that being bare has on partners in both m/f and m/m erotica, but, like you, give me know actual deets of the upkeep. I don't want to know.
Jenre: “That seemed a bit too much like taking away his identity for me.”
That is a very interesting point, Jen, and it's something that I hadn't really thought about before. Our hair can be a very intimate and personal part of our identity. I wonder if that's why I was so squicky about this aspect. Something to ponder.
Which will, of course, be a first in and of itself. π
Suzi, I'm so with you about eyebrows. Now way in hell I'd let anyone get rid of mine, especially since I, rather my beautician, works so hard to keep those suckers tidy. π
“As for me, my hubby likes it and since I am too lazy to do it he gets to shave me, knowing if he hurts me I will get my revenge…”
And he still does it regardless?? He is a brave, brave man. π
EH: “Hair made the top ten on the list of “Hubby Must have” when I went looking”
*g* Did you have a check list? π
It's funny. I can give or take how hairy a guy is (not too gorillay though). Just give me a sexy guy to perve at and I'm happy. LOL.
Katebabs chooks: Yes, indeedy. Happy trails are tops. *g*
Merwan: “I just think it speaks of trust and intimacy and that gets me going! :D”
A lot of people have pointed out that they see it as a trust issue, which is why that act works to highlight the intimacy between the protags. I definitely agree. Now if only I could shut up that little voice that keeps whispering about hands slipping and aftercare. LOL.
Chris: You're on to me. π
I read about it in Bent (Sean Michael). Hmmm. I had a lot of firsts with that book *grin*
LOL. You certainly did, Orannia.
Shaving…
I'm not into full body shaving scenes, although that one Starsky and Hutch fic was pretty hot.
I write a character who waxes everything but his pubes and his head. His smoothness tends to freak people out mroe than turn them on.
But shaving another man's face? GUH! I acquired that kink watching old Errol Flynn movies. It's so hot watching them lather up the brush then draw that straight-razor ever so gently over the vulnberable skin…
Angelia: Okay, I'm definitely going to try and find that Starsky and Hutch story. I'm totally intrigued now.
“But shaving another man's face? GUH! I acquired that kink watching old Errol Flynn movies. It's so hot watching them lather up the brush then draw that straight-razor ever so gently over the vulnberable skin…”
I read this, Angelia, and could actually hear the sound that the razor makes on a beard. I agree it is very sensuous. Unfortunately, I think, slapstick scenes associated with barber shops have ruined it a little for me. Maybe what I need is to revisit some Errol Flynn movies? Now, that's an excuse right there. π
The story is in the zine BOUND AND DETERMINED. “A Bottle of Beer, a Can of Shaving Cream, and Thee” is the title. (I bought the zine because it was a kink zine with a Han/Luke story and I was curious who else was writing SW kink)
And the shaving scene I'm thinking of is in DODGE CITY.
Oooooh, Han and Luke. *g* Thanks for the info, Angelia!
