things that make you go O_o

Have any of you, who actually read the genre that is, noticed how yaoi authors and artists always include their blood type in their bios:

Besides the fact that the random bits about themselves are a little odd – trust me; I’m an expert on this -, what the fuck is up with telling people that??

Do you think it’s like secret personal ads for vampires?

O_O

Maybe they’re preparing for the big supernatural reveal in 2012?!

Didn’t I tell you all last year that there is A Plan underway, but nooooo… none of you believed me.

Hmpf to you lot!

About Kris

Reads, rants, randoms & R+s. You've been warned. BTW, don't follow me if you're a GLBTQQphobic wanker. It won't end well. For you.

  1. Tam says:

I believe in Japan it's like telling someone your astrological sign. They believe certain blood types carry certain traits.

I am A+ (the highest grade LOL) and according to THIS site I am:

People with blood type A have a deep-rooted strength that helps them stay calm in a crisis when everyone else is panicking. [YES] However, they tend to avoid confrontation, [YES] and feel very uncomfortable around people. [YES] A types are shy and sometimes withdrawn. [YES] They seek harmony and are very polite, but all the same feel that they never really fit in with others. [YES] A types are very responsible. [YES] If there is a job to be done, they prefer to take care of it themselves. [YES] These people crave success and are perfectionists. [NOT SO MUCH] They are also very creative, and the most artistic of all the blood types,[HAHAHAHA NO] most likely because of their sensitivity.

  2. Chris says:

Hey, thanks for posting that info, Tam – I'm also A+. 🙂 Also, your annotations? Ditto.

  3. Cecile says:

Okay, so I must be one step lower… A-… Wonder what that makes me.

Well, I wonder what they will think of next to put there… Kinda neat, kinda creepy.
That would be like me shaking your hand and introducing myself:
Hi, my name is Smut woman, A-, nice to meet you?

    =)

  4. JenB says:

    Well…

I didn't even notice the blood-type thing because at first glance I read that intro sentence as “I found an umaibo (delicious stick) in my dad's ear.”

    O_o

  5. Tam says:

LOL I went back and read it and thought it said “ear” too Jen. I was thinking “How gross, she ate something she found in her Dad's ear? Ewwww.” Duh.

As a negative you are just slightly infereior to Chris and I Cecile. LOL The site doesn't seem to mention anything about the negative/positive thing but the authors always indicate.

  6. Cecile says:

Crap… okay.. I will take that. Bows to the Positive, lol!

  7. Kris says:

    Tam: This is me –

People with blood type O people are outgoing, energetic and social. [MY ARSE!] They are the most flexible of the blood types. [THAT'S BECAUSE I'M LIBRAN NOT BECAUSE OF MY BLOOD TYPE]They easily start up projects but often have trouble following through because they give up easily. [NO, IT'S BECAUSE I GET BORED EASILY. HELLO. TOY POODLE FLU.] They are flighty and not too dependable. [COULD THIS GET ANY MORE WRONG.] O types always say what's on their mind. [HMMMM. MAYBE.] They value the opinion of others and like to be the center of attention. [PART OF THAT STATEMENT MAY BE TRUE.] Also, people with O blood are extremely self-confident. [YEAH… NO]

Type O, the most “average” blood type, is considered the best type in Japan. [YAY ME!!]

The only good thing about this is that Sailor Moon has an O blood type too.

    I like my theory better.

  8. Kris says:

Cecile: That site even gives you what pairings work the best. Since I'm an O, AB is my best partner. Can't you just imagine a blood type, singles dinner? You can't tell me that the vamps wouldn't love something like that.

JenB: *snort* I did too. Even after the reread I was like 'what the hell she's eating something that's been hanging around in her dad's car for some unknown period'. Blech.

  9. Jenre says:

I'm with Kris on your Japanese blood type people, Tam. I'm an O as well and I'm almost completely opposite to what that personality type is supposed to be like.

Kris: I've always wondered what the thing was with the blood type in yaoi too. I just put it down to cultural difference.

  10. jitterbug says:

In shoujo manga I often noticed that in authors' summarizations of their characters they almost always specify the characters' blood type. I knew it was linked to the characters' personalities, but I was too lazy to look it up. Thanks Tam for your research! I'm A+ too, btw, and I really wouldn't describe me as a perfectionist. I do hate confrontations though!

  11. Kris says:

Jen: So you think cultural differences and I automatically think vampires. I think there may be something wrong with one of us.

Sara: Yes, I've noticed it in relation to character summaries as well and have always wondered why.

What it is is lulling the reader in to thinking that it's perfectly natural to share your blood type with complete strangers. It's the equivalent of a list of ingredients on a food label.

  12. K. Z. Snow says:

    EIEIO
    B-I-N-G-O
    WTF
    ZZZZZZZZZ

  13. Kris says:

    *snort*

She's finally lost it. Knew it would happen sooner or later.

  14. Tam says:

Weird how Chris and I are good matches and you and Jen are opposites. And KZ has some weird blood disease. LOL

I want to see proof that Sailor Moon is an O. Show me the video of them drawing blood from a two-dimensional cartoon. LOL

  15. nichem says:

That is weird they list their blood types. (And I still think you're on to something with the vampire thing, Kris.)

BTW, I'm type O too and that profile sounds nothing like me. And funny how they pair O with AB since O is the universal donor and AB is the universal recipient. (So in the stories are O's the tops and AB's the bottom?) 😛

  16. JenB says:

I don't know my blood type.

Maybe that's why I get different answers every time I take a personality test.

  17. Mumma J says:

Jeez you girls crack me up.

*off to find the card that gives me my blood type*

  18. Kris says:

Tam: The site said so. That's proof enough for me.

Richelle: Ha! I knew someone would agree with me, Richelle. I should have known that it would have been you with your intelligence and insight. 🙂

“So in the stories are O's the tops and AB's the bottom?”

Well, obviously, since we're the 'donor'. *g*

  19. Kris says:

JenB: “Maybe that's why I get different answers every time I take a personality test.”

Hun, it ain't your blood type that's the issue. Just sayin'.

Mumma: They're weird is what they are.

  20. K. Z. Snow says:

This comment has been removed by the author.

  21. K. Z. Snow says:

Because, really, there's nothing sensible to say.

(If one of my publishers suddenly insists on publishing authors' DNA profiles in their books, I'm blaming you.)

  22. Kris says:

Don't be blaming me. It will all be part of the preparations for the Big Reveal I tells ya!

  23. Hmm. *rubs chin*

I think I am blood type A also.

  24. JenB says:

Are you saying I might have other issues? Hmmmmmmm?

  25. Ingrid says:

I wondered about the blood type thing too. Thanks for making it clear Kris.

  26. Kris says:

KBC: So do you fit the description??

JenB: Hang on a sec and let me check with this lead brick I've got next to me.

Ingrid: Always a pleasure to share my theories with the world. 🙂

  27. orannia says:

Thank you Tam. I'm O+, but then so are ~30% of the population 🙂 And I'm nothing like what they say O+ types are like…

  28. Kris says:

It's weird that none of the O types are anything like the description. You'd have thought there would be at least 1 hit considering the number of people who do have O blood. Heh.
