firsts series: twincest

In my first fisting (and doesn’t that sound down right dirty 😉 ), I described how I only vaguely noticed the act because I was distracted by my WTF-fascination with the twincest in Chris Owen’s Gemini.

If you hadn’t already guessed, yep, this was my first read with this pairing.

Since then I’ve read a few other twincest stories and have come to the following conclusions:

#1. A part of me is always gonna be squicked.

#2. The taboo nature of the relationship has to be dealt with in some way or else mega-ultra-squickiness will occur.

#3. Give me a third to the twins and I’m more convinced.

#4. The Island Kitteh and the Bloggist Formerly Known As The Gingerkid will ALWAYS be way more pervier than I.

And you? What do you think about twincest?

About Kris

Reads, rants, randoms & R+s. You've been warned. BTW, don't follow me if you're a GLBTQQphobic wanker. It won't end well. For you.

  1. I have to tuck the 'eww' factor aside and read it as pure fantasy fiction. “Torn” by Sage Whistler worked for me.

  2. Im reading about twins right now, in “Wicked Pleasure” – Lora Leigh. So far they've both only dabbled the chick at the same time, my ICK factor would be come out if they sexy timed on each other, forget about my panties squealing 😛

  3. I also read Torn and really liked it. Twincest is not really my thing, but if any author is skilled enough to pull it off, I'll read it.

  4. Chris says:

    No. No. No. No.

  5. Love your firsts series, Kris. But, as with the other firsts, I feel like such a virgin!! LOL! Never read a twincest and don't think it's my thing… but I might just give it a try… 🙂

  6. Jenre says:

First twincest was a no-sex story in a TQ anthology. Tam then persuaded me to read Gemini and I really liked it. Since then I've read a few, both in m/m/m menage situations and twins only and I've come to the same conclusion as you Kris:

    1. I'm always going to be a little uncomfortable with it.

    2. Having a third in the relationship seems to make it better.

    3. There needs to be a good reason why the twins are acting on their attraction to each other – not just 'he's hot' or 'we're two halves' etc.

Out of all the books I've read, only Gemini has proved wholly successful in meeting the third point.

  7. Not a perv. Not.

But we do like a good twincest. Gemini is one of my keepers, as is Sean Michael's The Center of Earth and Sky. I mean, what could be hotter than one super sexy guy, unless it's gettin it on with his equally super sexy twin at the same time??

    Kitteh Sammich, FTW!!!!!!

  8. JenB says:

Love it. Just the thought of it happening IRL completely freaks me out, but I loooooooove twincest in books.

Only male though. Not female twins or m/f twins.

Unfair and fucked up? Probably. But it's fiction, so I don't care. 🙂

Gemini may have been my first twincest, but as always, I can't remember.

  9. Val says:

Kris, you're corrupting me! My brain is so virgin that I, believe it or not, still have yet to read a twincest story!!!

That having been said, I'll admit that it's sort of a creepy concept, but I can see what you mean about how having a third would help with the ick factor.

  10. H says:

I think I've only read it in a fantasy setting (AU actually, LOTR fanfic. Elladan & Elrohir often had Legolas in them in and the ones with Elured and Elurin were just so very very sad …), so probably don't have enough information to speculate on this one – will just note any recs made here (I don't read menage, so this may be a tough one).
    Cheers!

  11. Mandi says:

I don't like the twin thing…but have not read Gemini.

  12. Ingrid says:

Mandi, you should definitely read Gemini then. It is rather well done.

  13. Tam says:

Gemini here too as was noted. I was a bit nervous when I bought it, but it totally worked for me. Sean Michael's twincests, Centre of Earth and Sky and Braided did not. Mostly it was the style, way too flowery and you never knew anything about the characters except that they were twins and hot and could ejaculate continuously and copiously.

Like Jen and Kris I prefer a 3rd in the mix to make it seem less insular and “hillbilly” or “twins locked in the attic” freaky to me.

Oh and I agree with #4 wholeheartedly. 😀 Love the pic.

There are those European porn twins. I've seen pictures but not video, apparently they haven't actually fucked … on-camera … yet. The idea of it doesn't totally squick me out but it doesn't get me all excited either. Sometimes its good but it's just another option.

  14. Kris says:

MsM, good point about reading it as fantasy. I haven't read Torn, but I've heard a lot about it, especially during these types of discussions.

Claire, yep, twins certainly appear frequently in m/f/m erotica… and in f/m/f. 😉 If you're squicked even thinking about it now, I think you might need to stay clear of it in m/m. It can get… interesting…

Katiebabs chook: You're definitely right about an author having the skills to pull such a taboo topic off as convincing. As it would be for any theme.

    Chris: No??

ErotRomReader: Thanks sweet! Must admit that I'm kinda surprised by what different people haven't read. LOL.

    “but I might just give it a try… :)”

You're a little curious now, aren't you. Would it help if I dared you to read one? 😉

  15. Kris says:

Jen 🙂 Funny how at times like this our views are in line. Must be the English in me rearing it's ugly head. 😉

Emmy, who we all know loves her some twinsmext:

    “Not a perv. Not.”

    O_o

    *reads kitteh sammich*

    o_O

JenB: Love you, Jen, and your 'fuck it, it's fiction' attitude. Iz good. 🙂

Val! Bloody hell, hun, what the heck m/m have you been reading not to come across these things?! LOL.

“I can see what you mean about how having a third would help with the ick factor.”

It definitely does for me so if you're gonna try it, I'd go with this option.

H: If it didn't bother you too much in fanfic, maybe it won't in fic itself?? I'm pretty sure that Torn is straight twincest… if you know what I mean. LOL.

  16. Kris says:

Mandi: If you're willing to give the theme another go then, as Ingrid suggested, give Gemini a go. The consensus certainly seems to be that this is one of the best out there.

Tam: “you never knew anything about the characters except that they were twins and hot and could ejaculate continuously and copiously”

Ummm, hello?? Sean Michael, hun, what did you expect?? *snort*

    #4 is an absolute. LOL.

Tam, are they the twins that were subject of much discussion in the Good Reads m/m group? The blond boys?

  17. Tam says:

No, apparently the blond twins only play the game for photos. Seems one of them is married or something (but they are purty), it's the Peters twins from the Czech Republic. But yeah, there has been a fair bit of buzz about them on GR.

  18. K. Z. Snow says:

I've never read one, but if the book were incredibly well written, I'd try to make my way through it. The concept doesn't appeal to me, though, because it's essentially narcissism lathered onto the soulmates theme lathered onto incest — and none of those appeals to me.

Plus, it reminds me of an odious former boyfriend; he would've liked nothing better than to boink a mirror image of himself.

  19. Sarah says:

I totally blame Jen for my foray into Twincest. Sage Whistler does it incredibly well. I've read a few now, but she's the best IMHO. 😀

  20. What else do you have in this series? Please do not say golden showers…

  21. Chris says:

LMAO at KB's comment… and waiting for the answer a bit anxiously. Because, really, where else can it go?! (PLEASE do not answer that. PLEASE. Just no.)

  22. Lily says:

I've read a few twincest stories and pretty much liked them all. I loved Gemini and also Sean's Center and Braided.

As for the eww factor, it's all fiction so doesn't squick me at all. IRL, it wouldn't be any of my business so wouldn't bother me either.

Kris, I sure wish I had as good a memory as you do. I can't remember which book was the 'first' anything except for my first M/M which was Snow Angel.

  23. orannia says:

I've only read it in fanfiction and…I took MsMoonlight's approach – I thought of it as fantasy. I have a confession…after the discussion about Torn and Gemini I thought I might try them.

My responses to all of these 'firsts' are really begining to scare me!

Please do not say golden showers…

    Oh no….

  24. Kris says:

Tam: Oh. Bet there are a lot of people googling them right now out of curiousity. LOL.

KZ: “Plus, it reminds me of an odious former boyfriend; he would've liked nothing better than to boink a mirror image of himself.”

    *snort*

You know for a romance author, KZ, you sure are a cynic. LOL.

Sarah: I think there are a whole heap of readers who are likely to blame Jen. She is a twincest pimp. 🙂 Not read Sage Whistler… hmmm…

  25. Kris says:

    *writes down golden showers*

    *mwahahahahahahahaha!!!*

Lily: I wish I had a 'it's all fiction' switch. Funny how I can love fantasy so much, but give me something that hits my squick and… 😦

“Kris, I sure wish I had as good a memory as you do.”

To be honest, it's not that good. I remember stories and authors fine, but titles not so much so I've been spending quite a lot of time scrolling through back lists. LOL.

Orannia: “My responses to all of these 'firsts' are really begining to scare me!”

Just think of it as research. 😉

  26. LOL! Kris,
    Yeah, I'm a little curious now 😉

'Would it help if I dared you to read one? ;)'

I'm no chicken, so you betcha!! I think I'll give Gemini a go than… *cluck, cluck*

But first I have to do my homework on your M/M meme that Leontine tagged me with this morning!!

  27. orannia says:

Just think of it as research. 😉

Funny, that's exactly the approach I'm taking *grin*

  28. Kris says:

ErotRomReader: LOL! You'll have to let us know what you think of Gemini. 🙂

You got tagged? Cool! Looking forward to reading your answers.

    Orannia: Great minds. *hehehe*
