more pron stuff (kind of)

Some of the stories about how people have been found out about their interest in m/m romance and erotica as well as gay pron got me thinking… always a dangerous thing, I know. 🙂

In all seriousness, it’s funny how this particular subject can feel like the biggest, tabooest secret in the world. Yet, when it’s all out in the open, the big reveal wasn’t as bad as you thought it would be. Awkward definitely, but not scary.

It made me wonder about my own reasons for feeling that I can’t be fucked explaining or, to my mind, justifying why I enjoy m/m fiction, etc.

Is it because the whole idea of a girl liking gay-themed work can be a pain in the arse to explain over and over again? Is it because people have such mixed opinions about homosexuality and it can be a minefield? Is it a bit of both or something different altogether?

For me, it’s the former. My favoured response to the raised eyebrows being the baby brother’s ‘What’s to work out? Girls and gay guys both like dick?’ A philosopher, The BB.

So, what about you? What do you think makes the whole situation so awkward? Or do you just not give a shit?

When I was doing my firsts series, a couple of funny experiences were retold about people having to hide their yaoi and other m/m print away from prying eyes.

Since I live by myself I don’t have to do this, but I’m curious about your stories.

What lengths do you go or have you gone to not to have your reading or watching habits found out?

And, hey, if you have ever been found out or had some near misses please share.

girls like pron too

We all know that the internet and other forms of media have exposed large numbers of people to pron who ordinarily wouldn’t come across it, including kids, but that’s not the topic I want to talk about today. Instead, I want to get your thoughts on why more and more girls are openly admitting that they like it.

This was me at a rellie bash over the Easter break when we were discussing Ricky Martin’s shocking announcement:

The rellies: You gotta love slow news days.
Me: The pictures are pretty cool, though.
The rellies: Huh?
The Baby Brother: *mutterherewegomutter*
Me: You know… the pics of him with his boyfriend.
The rellies: We didn’t know that.
Me: They look hot together.
The rellies: *stunned silence*
The Baby Brother: *rolls eyes*
The Mumma: *snickering*
The Baby Brother: *mutterI’mamazedthatyouhaven’tpostedthemonyourblogyetmutter*
The Mumma: She’s probably posted worse.
The Baby Brother: *muttershe’slookedatworsemutter*
The rellies: *continued stunned silence*
Me: What?! Girls look at pron too.
The Baby Brother: *double eye roll*
The Mumma and the Grandad: *snickering*
The rellies: *mouths hanging open*

Yeah, it was pretty awesome.

What’s also intriguing is that my views are such a contrast to the way I answered Wave’s post about ‘Do You Watch Gay Pron?‘ back in August last year:

I’ve never been a porn watcher/viewer, gay or otherwise. *shrugs* Just doesn’t float my boat. I’m more into reading erotica or porn as well as comics and manga.

I think for me it’s more about my imagination being stimulated with the fantasy as opposed to everything being laid out visually before me. Does that make sense??


That’s right; I’ve not always been the perve that you’ve come to know and love. 😉

For me, I think yaoi has been what has, erm, stimulated my interest in visual pron. *g* I won’t ever be someone who watches it, but I do (obviously) enjoy looking at still images, in particular (again obviously) those with guy-on-guy content.

Besides my own expedition into the territory of pron, it’s been equally fascinating to see my bloggy friends fess up to their own addiction to Sarah’s pron blog among others.

Granted the m/m romance and erotica community is a small one and we all feel pretty secure about admitting we like pron, but it’s interesting nonetheless.

So, my questions for you…

Have you always liked pron or is it something you’ve recently got in to? Are you like me and have only become hooked since discovering m/m? What kind of pron do you like? Film or stills? M/f or m/m or f/f? What is it that appeals to you? Are you proud to wear the ‘girls like pron’ badge or do you think that the subject is still largely taboo in the broader community?

C’mon… help appease my curiousity. 🙂
