Some of you may recall that Kris ‘n’ Good Books was
the first to break the story that this guy:

Was actually gay:

Well, the serial slut is at it again with rumours abounding bloglandia that he has been seen with this hairy piece of chestiness:

The proof?? See for yourself:

Yeah. Losing the tie really wasn’t that much of a disguise.

book sluts ‘r’ us media statement

It’s on again, virtual folks!

The ground breaking… the awesome… the whenever-we’re-in-the-mood-to-give-it-to-someone-nual…

BOOK SLUTS ‘R’ US BLOGGER AWARD!

This time we’re challenging you to tell us how much of a Book Slut you really are.

That’s right. We dare you to admit how many books you bought last month, whether it be an ebook, new-in-print or secondhand/used. Pressies, books for reviews or ARCs don’t count so don’t even try it.

The person judged to be the most unrepentant Book Slut will not only receive the Book Sluts ‘r’ Us Blogger Award, but an ebook of their choice up to $8. (What can we say. We are enablers.)

This time we’re only accepting nominations if you have the cojones to comment directly on this post because anyone not proud of their sluttery is unworthy of the Book Slut award. Amen.

‘Fess up by Sunday 3.59 PM (Perth, West Oz time).

C’mon. We’ll show you ours, if you show us yours. 😉

is kris *gasp* a prude: take two

Some of you make recall
my previous admission to prudery and whilst browsing the virtual shelves I recently discovered – or perhaps became aware of – another, which, if you hadn’t already guessed from the image, has to do with romantic fiction featuring a priest, reverend, etc as the main love interest.

This actually surprised me because I wouldn’t describe myself as being a very religious person; I’m agnostic if anything, yet I seem to avoid these stories like the plague.

I think a subconscious part of me sees the word ‘priest’ and automatically thinks of chastity and of celibacy and is, well, a bit squicked out by the entire concept of a relationship which will impact these vows.

Yes, I know there are different religions which allow the leaders of their faith to marry. And, yes, I know that some people, for various reasons, return to ‘civilian’ life so to speak.

I also understand the fantasy of this kind of romance. Let’s be honest, there’s a certain amount of titillation involved and I myself have enjoyed several stories on the them. (No Fear In Love by Jamie Craig immediately springs to mind.)

Yet, there is this part of me which always hesitates.

As I write this it occurs to me that maybe this issue I have does actually have to do with my previous post. That is, perhaps I see it as a type of unfaithfulness??

*shrugs*

Anyway, I thought I’d share this insight into the weird and wonderful ways my mind works and open the topic up to your thoughts.

maybe it’s me, but…

… let me ask you this…

Have you ever noticed how the numbers of urban fantasy and paranormal books have increased dramatically in recent years?

Have you ever realised that in quite a few of those books the paranormals either (a) are just about to announce their existence to humans or (b) have already made the big reveal and are living side-by-side with us in the world?

Have you ever wondered about the so-called “New Age” interpretations that 2012 is not actually a prediction about Armageddon, but is foreshadowing a massive transformation of the Earth and its inhabitants?

Have you ever considered that the leaders of the “New Age” are supposedly more in touch with their spiritual, paranormal even, sides than regular folk?

Have you ever thought about the fact that a lot of the authors of these genre books were born or grew up in the 1960s and 1970s when the “New Age” movement began?

Well? WELL?!

You laugh now, but it won’t be so funny when they turn up and you’re all #kickarsefail.

the kris ‘n’ good book not-quite-a-manifesto manifesto

A little while ago, everyone (ie book bloggers) was doing a manifesto.

I can’t remember why now, but there were some terrific ones about and at the time I thought to myself ‘wow, I should do one of these if I want to be taken seriously’.

Hmmm.

Well.

Errr.

*Bwahahahahahahahahaha!*

*ahem*

Moving on.

Anyhoo, since a couple of new virtuals have started to drop in, I thought I should prepare not a manifesto as such because the idea of my having one is beyond laughable, but rather a warning about what peeps should not expect when they cluelessly land on this blog.

So, here it is…

The Kris ‘n’ Good Books Not-Quite-A-Manifesto Manifesto
(in no particular order)

1. I take the piss out of (translation: take the mickey, make fun of) everything. Very little is sacred. Very little.

2. At some point I will mock you, therefore if you’re in the slightest bit sensitive you should probably leave now.

3. The title of this blog is a big fat lie. Yes, I (vaguely) talk about booky things, but only occasionally are they ‘good’ books.

4. I don’t do reviews. Infrequently I do what I call ‘tastings’ in which I kind of talk about things I dis/liked about the books I’ve read.

5. I’m not often wrong.

6. I’m completely and utterly random so if you’re expecting coherent discussions, etc you’re in the wrong place.

7. I totally object to swearing and crudity.

8. I make shit up.

9. Not only do I make shit up, but, depending on my mood, I either laugh at people behind their back or straight in their face about the fact that they believed me in the first place.

10. And, most importantly of all, I am AWESOME a Book Slut.

There you have it. That’s me and this is my blog.

For those of you who’ve been hanging around for a while now, feel free to add more crap about what people won’t get here.

Consider it a civic duty.

things that make you go O_o

Usually I stay away from this publisher because, well, quite frankly, it’s just way too easy.

This, however, just had to be shared.

maybe it’s me, but…

You are warned. This is totally about me.

I have the above sitting in my tbr and it’s been there for over a week now. This is pretty strange since (a) I really like this series and (b) I know this book will be bloody good cos Katiebabs chook and Book Pimp Ana told me it was.

So I said to myself: Self, what’s going on with your random brain now?

Myself said: I don’t wanna read it.

I said: Have you totally lost the plot, Self? You like this author!

Myself said: Well, that last book freaked me out, I!

I said: WTF?!

Myself said: Remember the spiders!

I: *shudders*

Myself: Yeah. *gagging* Squicky.

See, I hate spiders. I seriously hate them. If I didn’t want to add yet another disorder to my list, I would say I am arachnophobic.

My skin crawled the entire time I was reading Demon Bound and I kept on seeing little, hairy legs out of the corner of my eye. *shivers up spine* Okay, yuck. I seriously need to stop talking about it.

Basically, I’m wimping out. Yeah, that’s right. Tough-as-nails Kris is hesitating to read Demon Forged because she’s scared shitless and needs to be reassured – to the gazillionth degree – that this story is spider free.

This also made me wonder how – I might need to make that ‘if’ because, let’s face it, it might only be my mind that works in this way – others with phobias have felt when they have come across the subject of their fear, etc in fiction.

For example, if you’re claustrophobic and you come across a sex scene in an elevator, does your love of smut far out weigh your levels of freakoutiness?

Oh, and I’m thinking of starting a campaign to get publishers to put warning labels on books, but in a positive way so it’s not all skull and cross bones with big red ‘x’es and stuff.

This is the kind of thing I mean:

Pretty good, right?
