firsts series: fisting

Why not go all out to begin with I say. 🙂

‘My first fisting by Kris ‘n’ Good Books’

One day; a long, long time ago, Kris read a book.
The book was about a boy who met a boy, who introduced him to yet another boy.
The first boy started smexing with the second and the third boy.
This was ok because, hey, two boys plus one boy was just more fun.
However, the second and third boys were twins and were also smexing.
*gasp*
Needless to say, when fisting occurred Kris was still puzzling over the twincest thing to pay much notice.
Soon after, Kris read another book.
Romance, tatts, smexing, fist-…
“What. The. Fuck.”
Turning back the pages, Kris read the scene again.
And again.
And again.
“Is this really possible??” thought Kris.
Doubts aside, the feelings evoked by the act certainly seemed very deep and real.
“Perhaps,” she mused,
“It’s a measure of the level of trust and intimacy between the lovers.”
This made complete sense to Kris.
So, on she read…
… and then after discovering this author kinda got blase about the whole thing.
The End.

And you? What’s your fisting story??

firsts series: rimming

Still being as bored as bat shit, I decided to start a series about those firsts we often have whilst reading.

This can be anything from the first genre, the first theme, the first scenario, etc, etc and, because I’m nosy, I thought it would interesting to share with each other what we might have thought about the firsts then and what we may think about them now.

As it seems to be a fave with a certain US redhead and it definitely is in every other m/m romance I’m reading at the moment, I thought there was no better place to start than with, you guessed it, rimming!

I’m honest enough to admit that my reading of erotica and of m/m romance has sometimes felt like a crash course in sex ed. To begin with, I skimmed the parts of the book where I had no friggin’ idea what was going on. *Hell, yes, I was once that innocent.*

The ‘first’ time I really took any notice of rimming was in Laura Baumbach’s The Lost Temple of Karttikeya:

Phil moved the sensual assault down Brandon’s spine, leaving a trail of heated kisses and long, rough laps of his tongue. Brandon shifted to allow his cock more room, the shaft rising to full engorgement by the time Phil had slid down to taste Brandon’s ass.

A wet jab at his asshole made Brandon jerk and push back, encouraging more of the same. Phil ignored the silent request and lavished a series of licks and sucking kisses over the sensitive crease and the puckered skin around Brandon’s entrance.

Spreading his legs wider, Brandon clenched the sheets and held on. He knew once Phil started eating him out, it would be a slow, agonizingly delightful event that would leave him on the verge of coming. Phil wouldn’t stop until he had Brandon begging for more. And Brandon knew he would. Nobody rimmed like Phil did. No one made him feel the way this man did.

O_o

Yes, I was squicked. Having said that, one of the reasons I was in this case was because the relationship between Phil and Brandon was shitty to say the least.

The second time I noticed rimming was in a short story by T A Chase. In this, the protags used cling/saran/plastic wrap for protection. Healthy, yes. But was it sexy?? Errr…

Now, a couple of years of reading later, I enjoy the smexiness of a good rimming scene from my safe little bubble of assumptions. Developed here, these are:

Rimming assumption #1: It’s clean.

Rimming assumption #2: Farting and other bowel movements have not ever happened from this arse. Ever.

Rimming assumption #3: It’s not only clean, but has been waxed, polished and buffed.

Rimming assumption #4: Looks and smells like a rosebud and tastes like strawberries.

So, that’s me, but what about you? What was your rimming first? What did you think of it then and what do you think now?

C’mon. ‘Fess up. No one’s gonna take the piss out of you *much* here. 🙂

proof

So, I was busy procrastinating lurking a couple of weekends ago and whilst at Ms M’s Moonlight to Twilight blog found this:

The Gematriculator is a service that uses the infallible methods of Gematria developed by Mr. Ivan Panin to determine how good or evil a web site or a text passage is.”

Finally! *Thoughteth I.* A scientific method to prove once and for all that I am all things sweetness and light.

And lookee here:

Ha! *I say.* HA again!!!

The proof is irrefutable.

I am a good girl.

maybe it’s me, but…

… have you noticed lately how every other m/m blurb has one of the characters either trying to escape his past or having his past come back to haunt him?

I know that it makes for insta-plot conflict, but why does he always have to be ‘saved’ by his twu wuv??

Why can’t he say ‘You know what… fuck this. I love you, but if I’m ever going to be a healthy partner in this relationship I’ve got to work this shit out for myself.’

T’would make for a nice change, don’t you think?

tasting ‘absolutely, positively not’

Kris’ New Year’s Readolution 3! To try a different author and/or genre once a month.

So, I did actually read a whole heap of new-to-me authors last month, but I never actually tasted one. Whoopsy. Anyways, here ’tis now.

Absolutely, Positively Not… by David Larochelle

The Blurb:

Steven doesn’t know if he’ll pass his driver’s test or if he’ll ever understand his parents, but there’s one thing her knows for sure: He’s absolutely, positively NOT gay. How could he be, when he conscientiously collects photos of girls in bikinis and makes a point to sit at the jock table? So what if he takes a golden retriever to the dance because he can’t face telling his mom that he doesn’t have a date? So what if he thinks Coach Bowman is, well, extremely, unnervingly handsome. Who wouldn’t? Right?

Why I bought it:

I’ve been going through the YA books on Lee Wind’s site and this blurb caught my imagination.

Dislike/like (ending on a high note):

Dislike~ Or more of a warning~ The people who think we’re living in a gay utopia where all stories should reflect queer experiences where everyone automatically accepts and believes everything about themselves and each other and that this magically makes everything alright in the world should probably stay away from this book.

Like~ What I liked about it so much – and why gaytopians or conservatives aren’t likely too (see above) – is that it is one of the first YA books I’ve read where the main character, Steven, really struggles, denies, explores, etc the fact that he might be gay. For this reason, I think this is a story many will be able to relate to because it reminds us of how we also stumbled our way through the highs and lows of adolescence in an attempt to work out who we were – or might be – as individuals.

Dislike~ Or another warning~ This is not a love story where the main character comes out because he’s ‘found’ a boyfriend or whatever. I actually thought this made the theme more realistic because, rather than being based on external factors, Absolutely, Positively Not is, at its heart, a story about the acceptance of oneself. I personally find these stories the more empowering.

Like~ I LOLed, cringed, giggled, got exasperated, snorted and even awwed whilst reading this book. I finished it very satisfied that Steven had made a positive, if somewhat tentative, step forward on his journey, which I think is a testament to the development of both story and characters by this author.

So, what I think: Absolutely, Positively Not is a touching, funny and, above all else, convincing coming out story. It is perfect for those who enjoy YA and are interested in a couple of hours of entertaining reading. I really liked it.

=============================================

‘Tasting’ is my version of a mini-review where I talk a (very) little about what I liked and disliked about a book as well as who I think the story will appeal to. Oh, and I’ve added a bit about why I picked up the book in the first place – sometimes this can be interesting to know.

kris ‘n’ good books phobia treatment

Because I’m all about being caring of others, blah, blah, I decided that I needed to do something about Anesthezea’s fear of tighty-whiteys. (My theory is that she was scarred for life by Tom Cruise in Risky Business. Quite frankly, who wasn’t.)

Hence, after much blood, sweat and tears, I give you my specially developed phobia treatment:

just in case you missed it the first time *yowzer*

*sigh* The things I do for you all. No joke.

a dare & a poll

gratuitous cookie butt

Besides showing that not only do many of your numeracy skills suck but your tastes in a certain character are total poo, my m/m meme threw up – not in a regurgitated kind of a way cos… yuck – a number of interesting comments.

One of these was made by the loverly Kassa, who practically double dog dared me to do a poll about it. (I’m like Marty McFly with the chicken thing when it comes to dares.)

Anyways, this is what Kassa said in response to that question. (You know the one that I mean.):

“Readers love a flawed, fallen hero even more than they love a rimming scene.”

O_o

Really??

Do you truly-ruly love a flawed hero more than rimming?

Cos I gotta tell you that I think Kassa may be underestimating how pervy some of you really are.

… there is just something about this cover that I just adore.

Very simple. Very affective. Very lovely.

Nice one, Dreamspinner Press. Have to say that you’ve had some major wins in the cover department of late.
