minion of the month award
Dear Minions
I am very pleased to announce that the April winner of the coveted Minion of the Month Award is…
Ingrid!
Why?
Some of you may recall this mission and the utter failure of the publisher to facilitate the stalkage of pictured cookie:
Many were filled with complete and utter despair at the inability to fulfill your task for me, your Goddess, but fear not because Ingrid has provided you with a second opportunity!
Now all you have to do is find out who he is!
Hopefully, the publisher won’t fuck it up this time round.
Go forth and conquer, Minions!
Your Leader in Awesomeness,
Kris.
wanted: stalker for author
To Whom It May Concern
After careful consideration, I have decided to retire from my much-loved, not to mentioned greatly admired, position of stalker to fellow Perth resident and somewhat esteemed m/m author, Sean Kennedy.
This decision happened during a recent exchange with said author when it occurred to me that our relationship had somehow – yes, it was very surprising – reverted to that of siblings. That is, he is an annoying shit who needs to do what he is told.
Therefore, in the interests of succession planning, I am now requesting expressions of interest for the position of Sean’s stalker.
Applicants must demonstrate the following:
* a willingness to read his work, including shit sub-genres that you might not ordinarily like;
* constant posting of his author picture (as per the below) in spite of his requests for privacy; and,
* a dungeon or basement or soundproof room of some sort preferably with attached bathroom facilities, for obvious reasons, as well as already installed wall chains, again for obvious reasons.
Please send you responses and, of course, declarations of love and fangirlyness directly to Sean at kennseaATgmailDOTcom. (Please note that he does not like to receive undies.)
Yours sincerely,
Kris of Kris ‘n’ Good Books.

f@ck it friday…
… but on a Thursday. Yeah, well, I haven’t done one of these in a while, that’s why. So be warned. You’re about to get hit with a biggie.
Begin rant.
Fact 1. The m/m romance community is a small one. Readers know reviewers. Reviewers know authors. Authors know readers. It’s itsy bitsy.
Fact 2. There are fans. There are friends. There are enemies. There are frenemies. There are acquaintances.
Fact 3. At some stage, a fan or friend is bound to review or rate the work of an author that they’re the fan or friend of. Let’s face it, that’s generally how peeps meet in this small world of ours.
Fact 4. It’s relatively easy to find out about this type of relationship because the fan, friend or the author will hang out at each others’ sites.
Fact 5. You tend to read the reviews where this relationship occurs knowing that (a) the reviewer may be a bit more squeey, (b) the reviewer may be even harder on the work because they are conscious or their association, or (c) the reviewer will do what they do regardless because they are comfortable enough to stick to their guns.
Fact 6. What is less well known – unless the enmity has been well publicised (ie the subject of a major wankfest) – is when someone hates the guts of a particular author or when someone is the fan/friend of the someone who hates the guts of a particular author.
Fact 7. Because this is not as obvious, it is not always clear why a certain review or rating may have been given to a book.
Fact 8. What really shits me is when the hater or fan/friend of the hater deliberately attacks the work of a particular author because the two are supposedly locked in mortal combat.
Fact 9. This has happened recently to two authors that I know and, yes, are friends with. This doesn’t stop it, however, from being completely and utterly bullshit-style fucked, which is what I would also say if the situation was reversed.
Fact 10. To those people who do this…
I know that you think you’re being supportive and all, but, seriously, Karma will get you.
She’s a bitch like that.
End rant.
mia’s story: your choices
Srsly. It’s like I have a gift or something.
The results are in and I gotta say I’m a bit disappointed in y’all (check out my Texan accent that I’ve been practicing). I was really hoping that the Trekkies would win the day, but alas it was a total failure. 😦
Anyways the choices that got the most votes are as follows:
1. the setting ~ a building earmarked for demolition
2. some background to one of the main protags ~ one is sucked in to doing a favour for a friend
3. another character/s ~ a lavender-haired matron in a twin set and pearls, who is constantly pinching butts
4. a conflict ~ one has a panic attack whenever he sees red M&Ms
5. an object/phrase to be mentioned in the story somewhere ~ a split trouser seam revealling a pink, lace g-string
What the hell a bum pinching granny would be doing on a construction site is beyond me.
Lucky for you lot it’s not up to me to write your story, but Mia Watts.
Hmmm. Now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure that she’s the lucky one. *mwahahahahahaha!*

a book i want
A couple of weeks ago, Kassa asked her followers ‘what kind of book are you craving that you can’t find?‘ and I was reminded of this when Orannia posted about reader’s expectations and the personal experiences that we bring to bear on certain works.
Recently, when I was at my absolutely lowest due to my depression and chronic illness, I was aching for a romance – preferably m/m as is my wont *g* – that featured a protagonist with such issues, primarily with mental illness.
See, I’m a pretty tough chick so can cope with my physical problem most of the time; however, my mental condition… well, it just majorly kicks my arse.
At times like this, I’m not interested in non- or literary fiction which, IMO, are likely to make me feel even worse.
I want romance.
I want the fantasy that there are people who are feeling as shitty as me out there in the world who can find love and happiness.
Yeah, it might be that I’m deluding myself. But, quite frankly, who gives a fuck as long as I can loose myself for a couple of hours and feel a little better afterwards, if only for a short while.
So, where are the romance stories like this?
These are a few of the m/m authors and books which I’ve either read or heard about that deal with mental illness in some way, shape or form:
~ ePistols at Dawn by Z. A. Maxfield
~ The Curtis Reincarnation by Zathyn Priest
~ A Note in the Margin by Isabelle Rowan
~ Lord and Master duology by Jules Jones
~ Men of Smithfield: In and Out by L B Gregg (out in May, read about it here)
~ There’s a sixth one that’s a novella where the main character (I vaguely recall him being a musician??) is agoraphobic, but I can’t for the life of me find it in my goodreads shelves.
Not that many, though, are there?
Do you have any recommendations for any romances on the theme of mental illness?
Also, are there any books way outside of the norm like this, which you are or have been interested in reading but couldn’t find?
Between us maybe we can inspire an author. 🙂
